Can anyone help with a Windows Vista problem?
I posted in the computer help forum but haven't gotten a bite.

Apparently there's a glitch with installing Adobe Flash v.10 with Windows Vista. My husband got an error message on his computer that he needed to install the latest flash player to see videos on YouTube so he did but the computer still gives the same message.

The program is sitting there in the installed files on his Control Panel but does not do anything. I tried uninstalling and re-installing but still nothing.

Has anyone had this problem and did you resolve it?

I really hate Vista. :grr:

1. Just ONE video or ALL videos? I've run into that with random FLV files.

5. All videos
The computer does not seem to recognize that the flash player is installed. Apparently it's a common Vista problem (big surprise there) but I can't find the solution.

20. Heh. My work here is done.
And I'm a little PO'd about YouTube doing that, too. As a webmonkey, I try to ensure that my stuff is at least backward compatable to one version, otherwise you risk alienating a good chunk of your audience.

But don't even get me started about how Adobe's been pissing me off. :grr:

7. And I also have an XP
But same thing - he's not touching it. He's stuck with his Vista unless he wants to go to the expense of installing XP.

And why would I take the advice of someone who watched Top Gun last night? :P

9. Close your web browsers
look in this folder:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Look for a file that ends with .exe and then run that.

21. Yeah, I'm checking both browsers every time I do this
Still no luck. Frustrating. Right up until yesterday, it was fine then it decided that he needed to download the latest Flash player and that's when all the trouble began. That's what he gets for surfing porn all the time - his computer probably got sick of it and went on strike.

Oh, well, he's on his own. Thanks anyway. :hi:

22. I have the same problem
Youtube is useless to me because I keep getting bounced back and forth with that same message. But when you install it, it doesn't work and the next time you go to youtube, you get the same message. aaarrrggghhh

I'm sorry. I wish I could help, but Vista is something I have been lucky enough to have no experience with. :hi:

25. Some possibilities: first, did you remove the old program before installing the new one?
I think that sometimes causes problems. Secondly, check whether various account parameters is properly set: Vista may have some parental controls, for example, and such things might revert to defaults when new software is added
