Anyone else find it fun to hold a gun?
Hell, there's nothing like the feeling of that heavy cold steel in your hand. I can totally see the phallic allure.

I don't own a gun, and I hope to never have to.

But its just fun to hold one :)

And by all means don't play russian roulette! That game has taken one too many vocalists from the band Chicago!

8. I have guns and I enjoy shooting
I grew up with them and I respect them. Like a car, they are very dangerous and powerful pieces of technology and should never be looked at as a toy or something to play with. "Fun" isn't really the word that comes to mind for me - too much implication of light-hearted frivolity, I guess.

I take handling a weapon very seriously.

9. Cars are fun though
Have you never had a proper road trip?

Yes, you have to be careful. Especially with a gun - it was DESIGNED to be dangerous.

But if you're at a shooting range, and are blowing holes in cardboard or (my favorite) tin cans - its FUN!!!!

14. I've had many road trips
I've driven across the country at least five times and of course that's fun. And it's fun to shoot - like I said, I enjoy it. But you were asking about the feeling of HOLDING a gun and I got a picture of some gleeful person with a gun in their hand and a big grin on their face. And that doesn't do a lot for me - I know a lot of people who've purchased guns because they thought it would be cool or fun but they don't know the first thing about handling one. That's dangerous.

Not trying to be a downer - just very conscious of what it means to handle a firearm.

Rotary hammer drills can punch a very nice hole in concrete.

I've held a shot gun a couple times and I must say, I'm not a fan. If they got rid of every gun in the country except hunting rifles, I wouldn't object.

13. Well every time I shoot my dads gun (I don't own one)
There is a sense of caution - a wave of caution if you will - that goes across my mind

someone could die with this weapon

I figure as long as that thought is never expunged it will be safe

And I understand TREAT EVERY GUN AS IF ITS LOADED

Sometimes people (and I use the term loosely) think it's fun to give the biggest hand-cannon they can find to a newbie and watch them spasm out.

I, of course, being the epitome of niceness, would have treated you properly. :-)

seem to be afraid of guns. I use my hand gun almost exclusively for emergency euthanasia situations, although I have shot rifles and other guns recreationally. No fear here.

31. No, don't like them, don't like shooting them, no appeal whatsoever
An ex-boyfriend liked to go shooting (at the Beverly Hills Gun Club, ugh) and while I was willing to give it a try, it just bored me to tears, and I don't like what guns are meant to do so I just don't like them.

I've been shooting, it's pretty fun. A nearby gun club has pin shoot contests, where you have to try to knock off bowling pins - six pins six bullets. Shooters are split into rounds, like an elimination tournament. Whoever knocks over the most pins advances. I got to shoot with a .22 and a .45 caliber. Lots of fun actually! I don't have any interest in owning a gun though.

I'm the shooter on the right:

Now, a rifle on the other hand, thats another story...

The way I see it is this, the only reason for there to be a weapon in my hands is to kill something or someone.

So, no I do not see it as fun.

45. No
It draws the eye, as your mind takes in the curves of the gun. Your eyes see the finish of the gun, looking for imperfections and tool marks, while your muscles test the heft and your palms send feedback on the ergonomics of the gun. Then you manipulate the gun's action, feeling dozens of finely machined parts moving inside of it, judging the fit and finish. How smoothly does that slide move? Are there any catches in the trigger as you squeeze? How much wiggle is in the bolt?

It's a time of evaluation.

And after that, you're just carrying dead weight. One more thing to lug around.

Now, shooting it is fun!!! Emptying a Marlin Model 60 as fast as you can into a 5-gallon bucket... yeah, that's fun. Destroying expired electronics with a 12-gauge... fun. Blasting apart expired canned goods with a rifle... that's fun.

:-)

47. No. I know how to handle a gun and I'm a good shot, but it's not fun.
I guess the first time somebody you knew and liked gets lowered into an early grave because somebody treated a gun like a toy instead of a very dangerous thing, you can't really see a gun as anything less than a grave responsibility that deserves a great deal of respect.

If you want fun get a wii.
