Woman breast feeds puppy. Pretty weird.

Kura Tumankako feeding her puppy, Honey Boy.
Photo: AFPHumans have always had a close relationship with their pets, but in this case, a New Zealand woman's actions have caused even the most devoted of pet owners to wonder if she has taken her bond too far.

Kura Tumanako of Hawke's Bay began offering her staffordshire terrier puppy her own breast milk after weaning her baby daughter onto solid food. Her reason? According to Tumanako, she "didn't want it to go to waste" and believed it would help form a bond between her daughter and the dog as they grew up together.

The dog, named Honey Boy, reportedly took to the milk instantly and began receiving multiple feedings each day. "It doesn't hurt," she reports, "but it's a bit ticklish." Ms. Tumanako did not care that her community looked down on her beliefs in this practice.

25. Breast-feeding a pit bull?
And yet, no DUer has stepped up to being a fund-raiser to fly her to the United States of American, for photo ops and dinner at the Olive Garden?

10. tiger milk?
I saw a bit on TV of a woman breast feeding two orphaned tiger cubs. I wondered how she came by the breast milk. You can't just start lactating. In the woman/dog case, I see that she'd weaned her own baby. Once I saw a woman breast feeding pigs in some country where pigs are sacred. Now, I breast fed both my babies and I have to say--don't misunderstand or may it isn't misunderstanding--that breast feeding is slightly erotic. Consequently, I always had a strong breast eroticism. I'm seventy now so I don't much care anymore. Still, the phenomenon is strange.

16. IIRC, the tiger-cub woman was either nursing at the time or in the process of
weaning a child. And the cubs died, because human milk didn't have the right proteins or enzymes or something-or-others in it.

5. well, humans are animals
and if her instinct tells her to breast feed a baby, then i think its pretty sweet. a puppy is a baby animal. inter species, I believe, do this all the time. I wouldnt do it if it were a baby wolverine, tho. :)

7. My only concern would be whether human breast milk can meet the puppy's nutritional needs...
and is easy to digest for the puppy, other than that, eh, to each their own.

13. We're the only mammal that regularly drinks other species' milk
Essentially, we suckle cows our whole life. Her milk probably doesn't contain everything the puppy needs, but I can't imagine it's worse than Purina Puppy Chow.

Someone would probably invent human milk extraction devices, giving a whole new meaning to boob tube.

17. You obviously dont get it...
And I find that spectacularly disturbing.

There is NO need for the dog to be sucking this womans tit. Dont want to waste the milk? Fine, pump it. But putting an animal up to your breast UNNECESSARILY is creepy as hell.

'It tickles'. tee hee. :puke:

But it does seem kind of odd to just voluntarily nurse a puppy who seemingly doesn't need it. Not my choice but whatever.
