Woman lives with 5,000 scorpions for 33 days
"she's very brave," says an onlooker... I think very stupid, but who am I to judge?

Jan 24 - A 39-year-old Thai woman has set a new world record after spending 33 days and nights living with 5000 poisonous scorpions.

Kanchana Ketkaew, was attempting to break her 2002 world record, when she lived with 3,400 scorpions for 32 days inside a tiny glass room.

4. What's 1600 more scorpions, when you get down to it?
One is too many, IMO. After you get over 1000 is there much difference?

5. She's absolutely nuts.
I have to kill about a dozen scorpions a year living here on the desert. It's bad enough never knowing when one of the nasty little buggers will be around, why would anyone deliberately live with that many? Nuts, says I.

7. Black emperor scorpions.
At least, that's the one perched on her chest in the picture. They're big and they look impressive, but they're virtually harmless (a sting akin to a bee sting, if they can even be bothered to sting you), and not at all aggressive. Spending a month among a few thousand of them isn't really that big of a deal. You just have to know the animal. I've had them as pets, and they're entirely handle-able.
