Ever have a company that you just CAN'T boycott?
For me its Marriott.

I'm a member of their rewards program

But its not just that

Their hotels, all of them, spotless, clean, comfortable - NON SMOKING

Their prices, decent, doable

Their point system, excellent

Hell, one could even say that they've fixed up a couple bad neighborhoods with the occasional Residence Inn or SpringHill Suites.

I have literally never had a bad experience with that company

And that's saying a lot

Now there is that thing about Prop H8

And I'm not sure how connected they are to it - but any connection is a bad one

And I want to see that gone so bad

But I just can't boycott that company

As far as business practices go, if more businesses ran like Marriott, we wouldn't be in this economic mess.

That is all.

1. You don't have to use Marriott, I don't unless I have to.
You got your Hilton family, which includes Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites and Hampton Inns.

They also have points you can tie to frequent flyer miles.

Most are nonsmoking these days...

2. I've stayed at Hiltons
They suck

Trust me, Marriott runs the Business travelers world

Marriott always has gyms

Marriott always has snacks

The ResInns are the nicest for the long termer, they always have kitchens

The Courtyards are the niceset for the short termer, they are always by cool things

Their beds are unlike any other hotel bed. They are rock hard, in a comfortable way.

Blame it on my Calvinist Ancestry, I love a hard bed

I probably would have slept like a baby in the army

3. I've stayed at them all, more than I care to.
Sheraton, Hyatt, Hilton family, Marriott, etc., and have memberships at all to get points.

I was sharing the suggestion for anyone who wants to boycott Marriott for their corporate policy, or whatever.

My preference is Homewood Suites, excellent beds and pillows, and bedcovers, and all night snack stores.

I like to have a refrigerator and microwave, and these are like apartments.

Most offer free hot breakfasts and dinners and free highspeed internet that works.

But Marriotts are nice, too! :P

4. I've had mixed experiences
I was at two Marriotts in San Diego this summer. One was all big and fancy, but it really really sucked. The room wasn't very comfortable, parking was HORRIBLE, and the rates for non-room things were pretty atrocious. I would have rather been in a Motel 6 - they at least have free or cheap wifi and free parking. Then, the next day, we went to residence inn one, which was the best hotel I've ever stayed at. So... there you go.

I don't know if I could boycott Levi's. I love my 501s. I wish I could find button-fly jeans that are made in the US or EU.

5. I'd love to boycott Duke Power...
... being more inclined to support UNC than Duke...

But then I'd have to generate my own electricity: Duke have the electric monopoly here.

Mark.
