2. Strongly in the "Fuck no" camp here.
I was one of the users he got booted from Napster back when Napster was cool.

Thankfully, I knew how to hack my registry to get back in under another user ID.

THOUGH... I ALMOST forgave him when I heard he told Sony to back off of "Beatallica" and helped then get "Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band" released.

3. Same here, FUCK NO.
I used to be the biggest Metallica fan in high school then Lars gets a hair up his ass and gets me booted from Napster. Then they start filing lawsuits. Who the fuck does that little shit think he is?

AND NOW They start selling mp3's online.

Plus I also wont forgive them for making crappy music after the black album.

9. I watched it, and "pathetic" isn't a strong enough word.
I feel bad about Roberto Trujillo, who seems like a genuine rocker (Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Black Label Society, Jerry Cantrell, Ozzy Osbourne).

But he also needs to earn a living, and if Metallica waved a steady paycheck under MY nose, who the hell would I be to say "no?"

13. The Grateful Dead REALLY knew how to draw a line in the sand...
...as long as the fans made NO money from their performances...$0.00...they had a passive, friendly "tapers section" attitude.

The minute people started trying to make a buck, they stepped up, and I supported it.

I don't believe that anyone should profit from "free" music that really isn't "free."

But that's not what the Metallica-Napster thing was all about.

Lars felt that "the kids" were "ripping him off," and so he went after "the kids."

And they, in turn, fucked him back.

Poetic justice.

56. Those people suck ...
I still here that shit on the radio and have to struggle with wanting to throw said radio into a vat of acid.

I have this recurring image in my head of Lars doing a funky-face air drum solo while Avril Lavigne was singing ... well, she was doing something that could be interpreted as singing on some planets ... a cover of one of their songs, like he thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

Told me all I ever needed to know about Lars.

:puke:

Pisses me off even more because of how much I *liked* the bastard in the early days.

27. James Hetfield torture quote.
http://www.revolvermag.com/content/james-hetfield-proud-metallica’s-music-was-used-torture-guantanamo-prisoners

Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently told German-language TV network 3sat that part of him was proud the U.S. military chose the band’s music to torture prisoners at U.S. detention centers in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay. “It’s strong; it’s music that’s powerful,” Hetfield says. “It represents something that they don’t like—maybe freedom, aggression… I don’t know… Freedom of speech. And then part of me is kind of bummed about it that people worry about us being attached to some political statement because of that. We’ve got nothing to do with this and we’re trying to be as apolitical as possible, ’cause I think politics and music, at least for us, don’t mix.” Watch the interview below. And for more Hetfield, read “the Best of the Rest” of Revolver’s recent Metallica interviews, right here.

29. Translated:
"We made our money and will continue to do so. We're wealthy beyond measure, so why should we be concerned? And besides, these are just a bunch of brown-skinned freaks in some hick country with no indoor plumbing, let alone decent stereo equipment! Like any of those ragheads are actually gonna buy our albums?"

:grr:

My problems with Metallica began when I noticed that every fucking song on Master of Puppets was in the same key! I mean, how hard is it to switch up key signatures once in a while? That, to me, represented a fundamental lack of talent. All this Napster crap was just the icing on the cake.

Your piece of shit band died with Clifford on that bus. It's really something when people you respect and admire turn around and bite you in the ass over $$$? These guys are already multi millionaries 100X over and they screamed the loudest and longest over Napster.

I've never brought another cd (limewire, torrents ahoy!) or will ever spend a dime to go to any of their concerts or buy another t-shirt ever again. This POS band is dead to me.

Yeah, I don't hate on Roberto Trujillo though. He wasn't around for the Napster/Lars bullshit. If I was him I'd take the gig & the millions too. Motherfucker gotta eat know what I'm saying?

40. I've never really forgiven him for selling out to commercial radio, long before Napster.
Their first four releases are classics of the genre. Everything after that was progressively more commercial, except St. Anger which was just a disaster all around. The latest release has a few good tunes on it. Some of the old school style is present and Kirk plays his ass off.

I still hold a grudge but I also did go see them last Saturday. Took my son for his 14th birthday. Pretty good show, they still play the old stuff with intensity and I'm just getting over the whiplash.

Lars is a dick, but so are a ton of people in music. He's no worse than most of them, and he played on some of the best thrash albums of all-time, no matter how much Metallica may lack now.

Besides, it would damned hypocritical of me to talk about how crappy a person Lars is and then turn around and slap that Burzum CD in.

I mean, hell, I'm a practicing Catholic, but probably a good quarter of my music library is openly, proudly blasphemous and satanic. I can't afford to lose any sleep worrying about the ideologies of the people who make the music I like.

In fact, he's got a pink iPod stuffed full of it.

Also, my ex-mother-in-law who was as Catholic as they come loved movies about the occult. She loved The Exorcist.

So, therefore, being a good Catholic == closet devil worshipper.
