Your nominations for best pilot episode of a series?
When they're done right a pilot can be like video crack. Your hooked and can't wait to see the next installment.

My nomination:

From the "Battlestar Galactica" re-imagined series: "33"

Although this might not qualify as the true pilot, it was the first of the actual series, and won a deserved Hugo award.

2. I never saw the pilot, and only watched a few episodes.
I will go back and check it out on your recommendation.

When Lynch is bad, he's very bad, but when he's good, he's creepy good.

6. The 'bad' in Twin Peaks wasn't Lynch's fault
He directed surprisingly few episodes, and the ones that he did direct are excellent.

12. In some ways it was his fault
He didn't get his way on some things, so he took his ball and went home.

16. In his book "Catching the Big Fish" he talks about his disgust and extreme unhappiness
at what they did to "Dune". Never give away the final cut option, he laments.

I fully endorse Mr. Lynch having full creative control in anything and everything he does. I'm sorry to learn that the network gave him trouble about anything. x(

9. The old Incredible Hulk
it was originally a made for TV movie, but did very well so they hired Lou and gave him copious amounts of steroids.

Some of the episodes are actually really good, but after a while it became formulaic.

Too bad the series went downhill from there.

15. I loved that show.
Nothing really tops a chick getting killed by a toilet seat, though.

20. "Lost" was a good one.
I'll give this to Abrams, he knows how to pique a viewer's interest.

Of course, whether he has a decent, satisfying conclusion to the "Lost" story arc remains to be seen. Maybe, he'll just keep the plates spinning in the air until people get fed up and stop watching it.

And, he really needs to come through with the Star Trek movie if he wants to avoid being the most hated man on the internet.

22. The pilot episode of "The West Wing".
"'I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt have no other Gods before Me'. Boy, those were the days, huh?"

"With the clothes on their backs, they braved an ocean, and the ones who survived want a better life, and they want it here."

Pilot episode of the best TV series ev-AR!
