Why our merciful lord Jehovah God must damn Bernie Taupin for eternity
In addition to writing for Elton John, Taupin has also written lyrics for use by other composers, with notable successes including "We Built This City", which was recorded by Starship, and "These Dreams", recorded by Heart.

1. I didn't know "We Built This City" had any composers
willing to step forward and acknowledge credit other than possibly John Smithee...

This is a possible travesty, although I don't know. I liked Elton John's early stuff, like Tumbleweed Connection. Of course I liked the Ohio Express and the Pipkins "Gimme Dat Ding" too once upon a time... "Yesterday, when I was Young"...

2. You'd better copyright that subject line
so you can make some money on it. Very clever. Just substitute anyone's name you feel like for "Bernie Taupin" and you have a nice thread starter for a righteous hatefest. :)

We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

For the record, Jeff Tamarkin's excellent Jefferson Airplane - Jefferson Starship - Starship bio, "Got A Revolution," tells the strory of how drunken mullet boy Donnie Baldwin (Starship's drummer, bottom left in the photo) beat the shit out of singer Mickey Thomas (top left) so severely that he required emergency surgery to REBUILD HIS FACE. Seriously busted him up. The band's publicists lied about it for a while...said that Mickey "defended the honor" of a girl who was being messed around by her boyfriend...but the truth eventually came out.

8. There's a healthy portion of the Sir Elton catalog that's pure crap, as bad as "We Built This City"
I always thought that "Madman Across The Water" was the definitive album. When Elton started wearing the Donald Duck outfits on stage the quality of his music...or lack of it...rose to the occasion.

16. Bugger off, Cretin. Tiny Dancer, Candle in the Wind, Your Song,
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road...

Dude wrote a lot of genius songs. It's not his fault if a bunch of idiot performers bought his garbage songs, too. Quit jammin' us with your negative vibes.
