Celebrities on "Facebook?"
I was googling a celebrity's name and found a link to Facebook that has a picture of her and an opportunity to "Add as Friend|Send a Message|View Friends" Are these legit? Or is there a third party who oversees the operation of "celebrity Facebook accounts?" Kinda like "fan clubs?"

I mean, why would celebrities be hanging out on Facebook?

1. For the same reason they're celebrities - they love attention.
That's my Fristian diagnosis of the situation, anyway.

2. Wouldn't you think though that after spending decades in TV and movies...
...they would have cultivated an intimate circle of friends to spend time with?

I don't know, I think I'd be going off to dinner, concerts, and shows instead of hanging my fingers up on a keyboard in the evenings "talking" with someone like...well, like me.

Just my observation.

3. Dane Cook apparently built and maintains his career on MySpace...
...or one of those social-type sites.

4. Thanks...
This is useful information. I just went to his site.

Maybe the celebrity I stumbled onto in my OP is legit...

6. Yeah? Care to divulge?
I happened across a semi-regular from the "Rockford Files." I always thought she did a good job, but was surprised to find her on Facebook. I mean, RF goes back to the mid- to late-1970s.

I thought I might "facebook" her and tell her how much I appreciated her work. But I wanted to make sure celebrity Facebook wasn't a scam first.

7. He is actually a columnist who is a regular on MSNBC
Thing is, we went to college together, but I am not sure he remembers me - it has been 22 years

I go have a photo of him in the library at school - we were study buddies freshman year.

8. Go for it!!!
A couple of years ago, I found an old friend from junior high/high school on the internet. We talked every evening on the phone. Last year I was in her "part of the country" and stopped in where she worked and surprised her! And we hadn't seen each other for 35 years!

We've been emailing each other on and off all this year...:loveya:

You might just be surprised!!!

9. I don't know if the celebrity that you found is legit...

but I'm on the friends list of ***CaliforniaPeggy*** and it's really her! :bounce: :7 :bounce:

I think you may not be fully aware of the features, options, and modifications that you can make to a facebook account. I have been critical of some the more frivolous facebook features and guilty of using them, but it can be a useful time saving tool. Think of it as an electronic billboard and rolodex combined with bonus networking features. And, it's FREE.

:hi:

10. Hrm...
I dunno, I'd like to think I would still have some semblance of normalcy, were it me. I'm sure some celebs have people "manage" accounts for visibility... but I friended a comedian (Hollywood movie-level) who I talked with at a comedy club, and from what he posts, I do think it's really him.

The appeal seems to be the same for them as for everyone else really.

I have a number of football supporter friends who seem to like adding players from their team. It's probably wiser to become a fan of sombody on Facebook though.

12. I don't know about Facebook, but the way to tell if a Myspace Celebrity page is legit is to
go here:
http://celebrity.myspace.com

and click
Celebrity Directory in the upper right hand corner.

If it's not on that list, it's not a legit (Official) celebrity Myspace page.

Like I said, that's how you do it for Myspace, but I'm not as familiar with Facebook. I would think they would have something similar on there though.

13. Celebrities aren't on Facebook/MySpace, and they do not read the notes you send them. However...
there are legitimate celebrity sites run by publicists and what have you. In the case of, say, musicians, an official MySpace site can be a good way to listen to newly released songs, etc.

That said, there are far more fake celeb sites than there are real. but you can usually tell the difference with just a quick glance.
