What is the difference between a 3-star and a 4-star movie?

1. 3 stars is average/above average, 4 stars is excellent/classic.
Is that what you mean?

they didn't consider Jeremiah Johnson to be an excellent/classic film.

Maybe it was the way the dialog was spoken...

3. Haven't seen it myself.
But three stars is nothing to sneeze at.

4. I think there is a very fine line between a 3-star and a 4-star movie.
I had not watched it in many years. I think it held up very well from 1972. It has a timeless quality that should give it a 4-star status.

Bridge Over River Kwai came on after that but, I had to sleep.

5. How did it manage to get 3 stars?!
I fell asleep during the movie. Boring, except for the scenery.

8. I love that movie

It's decently factual, except the real guy was a bit bonkers -- his nickname was "Liver-Eating Johnson," because that's what he did to Indians and others he perceived as enemies.
