54. We had 50 this morning at 6:30am in Detroit, or so they said...
...however, we also had wind gusts of up to 35 miles an hour (liars - it wasn't gusting, it was sustained). For the record, 50 plus sustained wind hitting you face-on on feels more like "ohmygoditissocold." Said like a mantra, while trudging up a long hill towards my culinary final for the semester, packing fifteen pounds of books and five pounds of knife kit. Of course I was north of the city so it was probably more like 40-some plus wind there...

That's not the best part: it was only 20 degrees when I got out five hours later, with the same wind gusts. Yeah, it was colder than going in, but the wind was at my back at least. And I had passed my final, always good to put a spring in your step. So now I hunker down (it's about 15 degrees) and contemplate next going out when I go back to school on 1/12/09. Just kidding, I have to go out for the holidays. But you understand the sentiment I'm sure. :-)

I thought of this weather during the two weeks of very limited power we had after Ike.

I don't know which is worse being really cold or being really hot.

There's about 3 inches of snow outside, more on the way for Wednesday, and it's supposed to be the deepest and longest cold spell we've had in at least 5 years, possibly the worst since 1990.
