I do love the "boyfriend" but we have fought and argued continually during our entire courtship, and this is the latest. I think we're both tired of fighting and can't figure out how to fix it.

I've been separated for almost two years now, still married but I'd like to date. Not sure how to do so without being divorced? I do get lonely but I just can't bring myself to date yet. Maybe I should finalize things, but it's hard given my SO's current situation, and the holidays seem to be a bad time to bring it up.

20. It's been interesting.

My husband and I are amicable and have had what we believe are good reasons not to yet be divorced. He lives in another town and obviously knows I have a boyfriend, and is okay with it. Our marriage was like a marriage between brother and sister and not much has changed. It's weird, I know. Really fucking weird. If you don't want to date then you shouldn't because the emotional baggage can be way too heavy. I fell for this guy the moment I saw him but my relationship/parental/domestic/financial situation has made our courtship a hell (when combined with his own post-divorce issues, I mean).

If you're doing the right thing by your SO, then perhaps you can work it out so that the divorce will not be completely devastating to either of you. That's what the husband and I have done, for the kids' sake and for our own. I wish you luck.

My situation is similar, maybe even simpler (no property, no kids), we get along great, we're good friends but there's no spark or romantic relationship any more. I've moved on, not sure if she has or not, but we're in different cities and living different lives. If we divorce I will continue to pay for her health insurance until she can get that on her own, her current job doesn't offer it and I can't bear to risk her being unprotected. Relationship-wise, I think I'd be relieved to know she was seeing someone, she's too good of a catch to stay single. I have at least one 'interest' and she knows my situation, and I think it's holding us back from moving forward. I understand though. I'm enjoying being single honestly, indulging in hobbies and finding new things to try and do, and I have a pretty full life - just lonely at times. It's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one who's been through it (not that I thought I was but you know...). Anyway, thanks and good luck with your bf. Hope the time away reminds him of what he has in you. He's a lucky guy!

Dating before the divorce is hard on everyone. I would go as far as to say that dating should wait until at least one year after the divorce is final. I have been on both sides of this situation and that is what I learned. YMMV.
