3. The Lord of the Rings...
Remember, that book was a long-in-development sequel to The Hobbit. It only became a trilogy because WWII rationing of paper prevented the publisher from printing a 1,000-plus page novel, so they had to break it into three books to be released at staggered intervals. But the whole work was a sequel to The Hobbit.

6. True, but if you read both you will notice a marked difference in style.
The Hobbit was clearly aimed at kids, evidenced by the chatty first-person narration Tolkein wrote. The Lord Of The Rings is different; the first-person narration is absent and I think the books are much more appropriate for adults and teens.

7. I would say that T2 is better than The Terminator
One test is to see how well the films have aged: Terminator is much more dated than T2, even though the films were just seven years apart.

It could also be argued that The Dark Knight is better than Batman Begins, and both of them are certainly far better than any of the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney films.

12. Some would argue that "Aliens" is better than "Alien"
Also, 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' was better than the first two movies in the trilogy.
And of course, there was 'The Empire Strikes Back'

14. I'll name more: Superman 2, Empire Strikes Back, Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior)
I'll second the Evil Dead mention.

I'll second T2, it's not only a great movie, but better than the original. Hey, production value does count for something!

16. From Russia with Love...much better than Dr. No..
while they are not exactly sequels, I doubt there would have been "Goldfinger" if From Russia with Love was a financial and artistic flop....

..Some say From Russia is actually the best Bond.......
