1. Were you in GD:P when that happened? I'm always afraid that will
happen to my computer also, when I go in there.

:hi:

6. No, I know
I was stupid - the thing had mysteriously died a couple of weeks ago, and I decided it was high time I found out why. First things first, I wanted to check that it wasn't the power cable. So I swapped it for an old kettle lead, which has the same type of plug that connects to a PC power supply.

Big mistake. A kettle likely draws 7KW of power - therefore it is a 13A fuse. Way higher than the PC needs. Evidently the problem was with the PSU, and without the protection of a suitable fuse it went POP!

8. Just making sure.
I have a reputation for killing computers remotely. It was just the one time, but apparently the thing started smoking and... Anyhow, now I have a reputation.

12. I am always afraid my computer is on its last legs.
I wish I could afford two so I'd have a backup. No one would know what happened to me if my computer went BANG!

I know I always feel like my computer is a living being to some degree, because it connects me to other living human beings who are not FReeper types. That makes my computer seem irreplaceable.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

14. No biggie
It was built by me from components anyway, so I can fix it. The only question is what other components the PSU took with it when it died so spectacularly.

The only thing I cannot replace is the data if both hard drives have been killed. The important stuff was replicated on both drives. We shall see.

13. Awesome.
Now I know what to do for entertainment tonight.

I'm going to randomly start switching out power cords until I blow something up! :bounce:
