Local cop pulled me over for doing 26 in a 25. I took that one to court and the judge threw it out. Same cop gave me a ticket for not having tail lights - after someone smashed into the back of my car and broke them. Judge threw that one out too.

That particular cop left town after he got an 18 y.o. high-school girl pregnant.

...to enter a freeway entrance. Took him about two miles to catch up with
me. I'm on I-84 East in Portland, kind of curvy.

Anyway, I told him "Thanks a lot, I've been sober for 18 days." This was
in 2000. So all of a sudden I've got this cop pouring out his sob story
that his son is a drunk/drug addict and he's tried everything and doesn't
know what to do. On this busy freeway. I'm like how the fuck do I know?

I still got the ticket. But I still grin when I think about him.

40. 1 mph could make a difference in the cost of the ticket.

They are in 15 mph increments as far as $$$ is concerned. So if it is a 25 to 40 mph zone, 41 would be another $$$ bracket. AT least where I live.

So, you know I feel bad for complaining about speeding tickets (ok, so not really, BUT...). Cops just have to enforce laws already made. They didn't make them. I am going to take up for cops a little because my big bro is one. And let me say his pay does NOT increase with the tickets he gives. In fact, he almost refuses to write speeding tickets unless it is crazy absurd fast. And he will not give an elderly person a ticket. I mean WILL NOT. One guy who always called about speeders on his road was in fact speeding. My brother pulled him over. He was in his late 70's. He told my brother to give him a ticket. He was the very example of those he always called and complained about. My brother ended up writing him a ticket to quiet him but tore it up afterwards. I guess because the elderly have a hard enough time to today's world as is.

The guys that irritate me are the quasi-cops, ie, the ones who work for Liquor Enforcement, the state office park police, etc. Yeah, yeah, they're certified law enforcement officers (as they constantly point out), but some of them would have you believe that they're Robocop and Joe Friday rolled into one package.

I have to agree - there is a special motorcycle cop arrogance that even the regular officers don't get. There was one guy my dad knew that was so obnoxious even the other officers hated him.

I don't know if they're just pissed they're not in a car or what - but there does tend to be an edge with them in general.

I think the local PDs mostly use them for fast response to accidents. I've only seen two or three actually out riding around/pulling people over all year, but if you pass an accident around here, there's probably a good 50% chance of a motorcycle cop being on-scene.

I can assure you that many cops aren't just bored. It is part of their job to write speeding tickets. Whether or not we agree with it, it is the law and they just enforce it, not write it.

I tend to take cop stuff personally since my brother was one. He has had to kill someone (justified, trust me), almost got killed on a few occasions, and has had to tell parents their children were dead, along with lots of other stuff. I promise the majority of cops don't sit on their asses.
