my studio sale is this weekend. this is my last ditch avoidance post.

i was so looking forward to this until sniping with another member turned into open hostility. i am the pres, one super-ego with 10 ids, including mine. seems like there is always one member who can't stand this idea of rules and responsibilities to the group. the sale always causes a big eruption. most of the time people get to go their own way. but this one weekend the group takes over. there is always some bump.
i need to forget about that, and deal with my own artistic crisis. i never sell anything at this sale. people are there for cheap but thoughtful gifts. like a handmade coffee cup. i don't make those. so i work my ass off for other people to sell stuff. and spend 3 days talking to people who tell me how cool my work is as they walk on by.
being an artist is a great job. if you can get paid for it, that is. after 10 years of trying to get this off the ground, i am getting worn out.

ok, i am up early, i have to go. i have to be ready by 6 pm, including a trip to the hardware store before i go in, and a trip to costco to get the food. i have to go now. i have to go now. i have to go now.

the sale is an annual pain in the ass. "office" politics is making me crazy. the whole thing is f'ing exhausting, and everyone sells but me. sigh. tired. can't wait to get to bed. so i can get up tomorrow and do the whole thing over again. then again sunday just for fun.

5. Anecdotal evidence ot the crappy economy. Sorry to see this.

I have several artisan/craftsmen friends. Tough times all over. As for me, I am scared to leave my crappy, underpaid job.

Who tells you how cool your work is, and then walks away. Don't take it personally - a lot of us are worrying about meeting next month's rent/mortgage payment, and whether the dentist will fix that bad tooth on the installment plan.

Of course, if I ever won the lottery, that would change.

i, personally, do not mind folks coming by for a glass of wine. but as a co-op, there are whiners who think the answer to not making enough money is to cut back on everything. so it is an annual tug of war. i say what the hay. we should have a good time, even if we are broke. most of them are fairly poor, tho, so it is easy for me to say.
