Where do you get your new music from (not purchase, but where you hear it)
Whenever I read Bust or Bitch magazine's cd reviews or read DUers list of favorite music right now, a lot of times I have no idea who the heck these people are.

Believe it or not, when I get a new favorite artist 90% of the time I hear it on VH1 (ya really, when you have insomnia, they actually play music videos in the wee hours of the morning).

My most recent CD purchases of new (at least new to me) artists have come from VH1 - You Outta Know:

Anthony Hamilton (oooh baby love me some Anthony Hamilton)
Leela James
Anna Nalick
Snow Patrol
Brandi Carlile
Sara Bareilles
Katy Perry (I know - she isnt a fav here in DU but I like her)
Adele
Duffy
and from regular VH1
Damien Rice
Finger 11
O.A.R
The Killers
Ray LaMontagne

These are just my latest (as in last few years) brand spanking new artists - I still have tons of other favorites.
Very rarely do I hear a song on the radio that makes me go.... oh yea I want that (usually have heard already)

I also hear a lot of cool stuff on commercials or tv shows - I end up googling a lot while watching tv.

So I just wonder where everyone else hears their latest music and what is everyone listening to now

Right now - Ray LaMontagne's Gossip in the Grain.... LOVE IT

1. Try Pandora.com.
You can create your own stations and choose artists you like, and they will find similar music to suit your tastes. It's called the "Music Genome Project".

I like this ambient group called Zero 7, and have found a lot more musics to suit my taste on their Pandora station.

2. Mostly promos
I get a couple dozen every month and what I can't get via the station I buy through the artists themselves.

radio has become sooo crappy, so I do listen to internet streams, but I am finding new resources just from this post

9. Well, sadly...
From the very limited radio that I listen to, from Guitar Hero games, and from the Lounge "What are you listening to lately" threads....I love it when people put in youtube links so I can hear the song, and if the songs are good, I scribble them down and keep an eye out for them....

I also hang out on a discussion board with a bunch of musicians (drummers mostly)
who are fans of Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy. They are a fountain of fantastic
recommendations.

When they recommend a band or artist that sounds interesting, I go to Last.fm and
listen to a couple of songs, our YouTube.

My latest discoveries are --

Corvus Corax
Beseech
Nightwish
Kevin Gilbert
RWPL
Blind Guardian
Haggard

I also use something called a Music Map.

http://music-map.com/

Just plug in an artist you like and it will map other artists who are similar. It's
very cool.

13. Thistle and Shamrock
Artist to artist is the best because once you find someone you enjoy listening to they have friends or people they have sit in with etc.

I got Ruth Notman's Threads on recommendation from Kate Rusby.
