Did you know that ______ is a cover song?
Name a song that is often mistaken as an original when it's really a cover. Let's keep this to faithful reproductions. Stolen riffs like how Smells Like Teen Spirit kind of sounds like More Than a Feeling does not apply.

Youtube links are welcomed.

I'll start:

The Tide Is High - Blondie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTv8Mpw3xDE

Originally performed by The Parragons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rwSPmT3ujU&feature=related

2. Bette Davis Eyes ...
The song was written in 1974 by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon and DeShannon recorded the song for her album New Arrangement. The song later became a world-wide Number 1 single for singer Kim Carnes in 1981.

It earned DeShannon the 1982 Grammy Award for Song of the Year, so in the end, she did get some credit.

3. Tainted Love
presumed to have been an original from Soft Cell, was actually first performed by Gloria Jones in 1965.

10. Here's Tainted Love as produced by Marc Bolan (T-Rex) in 1976

Jones and Bolan were lovers. In fact, Jones was driving the car that crashed when Bolan was killed. I have no idea what that did to her head. She's unjustly overlooked as an artist in any case.

7. Red Red Wine, which many probably think was written by UB40
is based on an old ska performance by Tony Tribe. But the song was originally written and recorded by Neil Diamond.

9. It's more Skinhead Reggae
By 1966, Ska had dissolved in Jamaica. When Red Red Wine was covered by Tony Tribe, it was 1969 and a dawning of the Reggae era.
