You know, some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed...
Last week, my supervisor called a meeting for Tuesday of this week to discuss future plans for the staff. I knew this was going to be a very important meeting, but wasn't working that day, so I asked that she move it to this morning. She agreed. Well, I've been having problems with my car--it wouldn't start last night or this morning--so I planned on taking the bus. I got a bus schedule and carefully planned my morning: what time I would have to leave the house for the one block walk to the bus stop; how much time to allow to arrive well before the bus arrived, etc.

Well all was going smoothly: I got up extra early, got out the door in plenty of time, walked to the bus stop, and waited. "Ahhh, I thought, here comes the Express to take me downtown!" I really wanted to be on time for this meeting (I normally work later on Thursday so I was going in a couple hours early, but felt the meeting was important enough to work a longer day).

Well, I get on the bus beaming with pride as I look around at all the execs who ride the Express, then, just two blocks from where I got on, the f*cking bus breaks down! We sit there for about 10-15 minutes until the "local" pulls up behind us. We change buses and ride its serpentine path to downtown as the "local" makes stop after stop after stop. I arrive 10 minutes late.

I don't know...sometimes a slug of scotch before 5pm sounds pretty damn good...

1. Ugh, dude, that sucks....
 Some days, the world just seems to be not on your side.

On the plus side, the things that happened were out of your control, so it's not like anyone could blame you for being late!

I'm dealing with lame work drama today, so I hear ya on wishing I weren't awake right now...

2. Thanks!

But still...you know departmental politics. From now to some point in the future, KansDem will be known as "the guy who arrived late" at the last staff meeting...:(

And the fact I asked for a change in date, then arrived late, won't help much...

5pm can't get here fast enough!
