'Bird strikes' force Ryanair airliner to land in Rome
Who knew that birds were so essential to air travel? Will the President intervene in this strike?

1. Did the bird flip and get sucked into the jet?

The aircraft landed and was brought to an emergency stop on the runway by the Captain. All passengers exited the aircraft safely and have been brought to the terminal building. The aircraft and its engines are currently being inspected by Ryanair engineers to assess any damage as a result of this incident.

3. I have worked on this issue, and I present to you two factoids:
First: BASH is the BEST ACRONYM EVER. It stands for Bird/Air Safety Hazard.

Second: If the blades in an airplane jet engine get too off-kilter, they can cause a blade-out. This is when all those little sharp blades go flying outward, chopping into anything in their way. Yes, little flying knives can slice right into the passenger cabin--AND the passengers--in mid-flight if the plane hits a bird.

Good times. :D

And for a further fun airplane factoid: Pilots have an axe in the cockpit. This axe is called the crash-axe, and it's for chopping through the windshield in the event of a crash.
