Ashes into diamonds?
What do you think of this idea? My dh wants me to have him cremated, then send his ashes to be processed into diamonds, to be set into either rings or necklaces for our 2 daughters and his granddaughter.

When I first heard about this being done, I was appalled, but now, the more I think about it, the more I like it. I wish I had known about it when my dad died 3 years ago.

My husband is not on the verge of death or anything(although he does have health issues, which I won't go into), but if the worst should happen, I like the idea of our girls, 9 & 12 yo., having a "daddy ring", for lack of a better term.

1. I told my girls that's what I wanted them to do with me when I kick
and they said "Ewwwww, gross" Maybe they will feel differently as adults, but for now they plan on sprinkling me somewhere nice...

2. I think my girls would react the same way if I told them
right now. If it would happen within the next 5 years, I doubt I would tell them right away, but save it for them, maybe until they get married.

3. I wish I had known about it when my uncle and aunt were cremated, I would
have saved out some of their ashes for just that purpose, because they had no children ..I was 'their child' and they were married 55 years. It would have been really neat to take a little of each to make a stone.

I told my daughter she could do that with our ashes. She politely said she did not wish to think about that right now. Can't say that I blame her.

4. It's a scam.
You pay a lot more the value of whatever stone you get in return, and there's absolutely no way to know that the stone has anything at all to do with the ashes you intended to go into it.

Of course, you have no way to know that the coffee can ful of ashes that you got back from the crematorium are the "real" ashes, either, but at least then you're not paying a shitload more for an overpriced artificial gemstone of dubious origin.
