Thoughts on the new G1 Google phone?

I'm so excited about this thing I'm about to make a long-term commitment.

1. I'm thinking about getting one if the plans are reasonable.

My current phone's spoiled me- I can't do without a qwerty keypad. That and the price of monthly service is why I decided against the iphone. I do wish it were pretty like the iphone- my main reservation about the thing so far is that it's a bit fugly.

3. Just go to T-Mobiles own website and see the demo of it...

I feel from watching them simulate use of it there that it's not a user friendly device like the iPhone. They really need to lower the iPhone's service plan!

4. Costco has them for $179 and a 600 minute + data plan for $65/month

that got me thinking! :think:

i need the qwerty keyboard and i want the HTML web browser. i looked at Blackberry but their browser sucks and the Samsung Blackjack has a better browser but still slow and clunky.

i was going to buy a Garmin GPS today for $169 and while I was checking it out, looked at the phones where i found i could use google maps on the phone and buy a phone for $179 instead of buying a GPS.

got me thinking.

Does the chunk on the bottom of the phone get in the way of typing?

6. i didn't have a problem, i typed on it, though it wasn't powered up

i didn't notice it getting in the way. these keyboards all require thumb typing which is a bit weird.

Extremely choppy, as you can see. Almost unusable. And yet the service plan is far less. Hopefully the iPhone will be opened to other providers than AT&T.

2. It's retarded:

1. What's with that big hunk of plastic that keeps your thumb from hitting keys on the right side?
2. Why should you have to continually swing around a keyboard to use your phone?
3. Won't play music from iTunes, why rebuy music?
4. Doesn't have as many apps.

There's only one majorly retarded thing about the iPhone: the lack of a physical keyboard.

But someone will fix that with an add-on one day.
