Try explaining simple concepts to them!! Especially with SAP. I have about 9 of them. Thank the Lord they are all really good people, just engineery, but they are more fun than the accountants I used to work with.

My two boys (17 & 20) work with me part time, which is great. We get along wonderfully, and it's fun to spend the time with them.

My primary form of recreation is sailing.

it was a great bonding experience. We both got out of construction, and now both work in the hi-tech industry. We're still able to get together and talk shop, and share some laughs over the days we when were busting ass! Sometimes I miss that, where you can look back upon the work you did for the day, and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Doesn't make much, but I do what I can. I am doing analytical work in my job, fortunately. I hate being a peon...

Can't seem to get away from the company; everyone else looking for people like me is devaluing such positions or asking for bachelor degrees and other over-qualifications and yet STILL devalue the position by offering pennies as a salary.

Can't seem to get a second job though, I seem to fail all of those bullshit psychiatric forms they want employee candidates to fill out. Everybody from B-Dalton to Wal-mart utilizes them, so it seems I'll have no place in this world if I lose my job. They don't even say why I failed; I know enough of maths and the logic questions are child's play. And I don't give a fuck about what the co-workers do, that's their business and I'm not a police snitch. :eyes:

I work in a food plant. I walk around the plant doing line checks, taste food, do tests in my lab, do statistical analysis, and talk to people about problems with the product or with them, like if they are picking their nose. In some ways, I probably have the best job in the plant. In many ways though, I really hate my job and I work in a rather negative environment. I've been there for a little over two years. I'd really like to do research or at least work with supportive people who care about quality of products. If you happen to know where I could find a job like that in Wisconsin, help me out. I have a BA in biology (equivlent to a BS at most colleges) too.

Teach academic writing. I love helping students to think critically and express themselves intellectually.

I'm also a Webmaster with certification from NJ Institute of Technology. I took a couple years away from teaching during the dotcom boom and was a Webmaster for two pharmaceutical companies here. Had to go back to college teaching, though, because they cut back.

I still do freelance Web work in the summer, though, and I also have some properties I own and rent, so there's management work associated with that.

--- at least in this area. I hear lotsa Republicans bad-mouth DeLay in private but they won't say a peep in public. Tom's a terrorist, plain and simple. He has treatened to "destroy" local Republicans who go against him. They all shake with terror when Tom's watching. Wussies!

DeLay is here to stay. If he announced tomorrow that he has become the Anti-Christ, they'd think he was speaking in tongues again and support him anyway.

This is exactly the same tactics that the Republicans use at the county level here where I live in suburban Philadelphia. It's small time compared to DeLay I guess, but ruthless all the same. All the local R's know about it and just shake their heads like "what can you do."

It's basically "You'll never work in this town again," if you go against the party line. Very explicit threats. And of course nobody
can blow the whistle, because the threat works for that too.

I don't see how they can stand themselves. The pleasures of a fair fight are absolutely foreign to them, apparently.

64. Office manager and full-charge bookkeeper for a fin'l newsletter
It's a small, family-owned business, I do everything except write the actual newsletter. It's not too demanding anymore, and I get to read DU all day :P

I'd say the best thing about my job other than the pay is that everyone in the office is decent to be around all day. They say you see your co-workers more than your family and I can say from experience nothing is worse than spending 8 hours a day with people you can't stand and who hate you back.

108. Check out Instructional Systems Development
Since you have good writing skills, there is a growing industry in online training development. One of the largest areas is in aviation. Your experience as a pilot would serve you well. If you work as a contractor, it can also pay pretty well.

Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 10:43 AM by PunkinPi
He was also a pilot and writer. One of my favorites by him is "Running From Safety".

I'm currently a student (returned to school after being terminated by a financial planning company that I worked for - can't say that I was too disappointed b/c they were all repugs). Anyway, I'll graduate in December with a BA in English Lit. I'm still debating whether or not to go to grad school, and if so what for (I have to many interests).

edit: Does anybody know a job where I can help people, creatively write and be politically active at the same time?

72. Fire Suppression Engineer...
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 06:10 PM by rasputin1952
Sounds impressive until you realize I'm one of the guys who goes into all kinds of places and installs the things that put out fires in places where commercial cooking is done.

I have worked as a non-destructive testing engineer; ParaMedic; Physicians Asst.; Medical Plt Sgt in the Army; numerous other jobs that are far too boring to list, (or do).

At present, I am working for a great boss, and doing things that make me feel like I'm helping other people, (a necessity for my mental wellbeing).

However......my main passion at the moment is to convert all of the Repug's I can, and get them away from the Dark Side. Since I am in Nebraska at present, I face a daunting challenge. But I will prevail, truth always conquers ignorance.

:bounce:

84. Any job in the Medical Field is as rewarding...
as you want it to be.

PA is about the best there is...my hands gave out, arthritis, (in my C-Spine as well), and now I can work at my own pace.

The one thing that really got to me, was how attached I got to everyone. About the only things I found difficult were Ped's and
Burns. In a big city Burn Ward, they can use morphine by the barrel, and the screams never seem to stop. I have the utmost respect for the Nurses that work on them; they have nerves of steel and hearts of gold.

The Progress servers run like a charm. I don't have to do much with them but that's probably because they're mostly my design. Another DBA manages the legacy Sybase and I'm heavily into a major re-design that will eventually replace both in about 50 years. I'm exaggerating but I'm sure it will seem that long when we're done.
