Any KY DUers??
I am in Ashland (Eastern KY), and I would love to attend/organise a meet if there's anyone else in this area...? (2 hrs south of both Cincinnati and Columbus, if that would be easier) Let me know! :)

1. Not in Kentucky
but Indiana. We are trying to get something going for Indy in just under a month. Unfortunately due to trying to work schedules together it has to be a Friday evening. But if anyone in the Kentucky or Cincy area is interested - and can swing it -come visit my thread in the lounge with a question to Hoosier Duers. :hi:

2. INDY?!
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 12:17 PM by dolo amber
fugghedaboudit....last time i drove to Indy, my beloved '95 Honda Civic committed electrical suicide. I think I'm jinxed by Indy, one other time I went there, it was raining like mad and my windshield wipers stopped working. I had to stop by the side of the road. This 18-wheeler pulls over to see if I need help and out pops this like 4 ft. 9 truck driver with only 3 fingers on each hand!! (TRUE story!!)...so, as much as I appreciate the offer, I think I'll pass on the Indy trip...I seem to have some wierd mojo with that place.:tinfoilhat: ;)

edit: bah, spelling :eyes:

3. lol... but you weren't combining your trip with the positive karma
of traveling to meet fellow duers! :D

I actually am from that reportedly wildly liberal college town an hour south of indy (but having lived in other liberal areas - I can attest it is not as liberal as its reputation portends).

I do a lot of work in Indy - and fortunately haven't had the same kinda luck as you. Come on now... maybe we can change that indy-dolo amber karma ....

4. From Lousiville
Originally, my family still lives there. I live on the East Coast now though. My mom posts sometimes, MasonJar, she still lives in The Ville.

My family are all very progressive, except for my wingnut brother. Do you even go to Louisville?

8. I used to live near Cherokee Park
and I have no bad karma with *Luavull*...I think that'd be a great location for a meet, not too far from Cinti or *shudder* Indy either. :)

11. Consider Indy?
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 03:31 PM by Don_G
Looks like Indiana DU'ers are considering a meeting on or about September 5th.

Maybe we and a few Ohio and Illinois DU members can join them.

On Edit: Never could spell the Cubbies home state.

Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 05:14 PM by dolo amber
he pulls out what looks like a brown paper grocery bag and asks if I want to *do some lines* on the way to the truck stop...see, I was trying to be all NICE and leave that part of the whole twilight-zone experience out! (For fear of offending any sensitive DUers.) Although in fairness, after reading loads of lounge posts, I'm not all that sure that ANYTHING is sacred in here...I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! :D

edit: My hand to *your diety of choice's name here*, this is a true story, by far one of the weirdest things that has ever happened to me, and THAT'S saying something!

12. Lexington
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 03:49 PM by alfredo
I am from Shively, but I got over it.

Lexington would be good because it is at the corner of I-75 and I-64.

Used to hang out at Cherokee park. Love the Bardstown road area. An old friend owns Lynn's Paridise Cafe.

Yes that is the same place that was on Christopher Lowell's show.

Next week is Lynn's Ugly Lamp contest

13. Iroquois Park Area
Right next door to Shivley and I had lunch at Lynn's today.

Lexington would be good for me also. It's not too far from my Grandmother and I want to see her anyway.

15. Good point about Lexington
Again, not far from Cinti and Columbus, also L'ville and even any WVA DUers are just a coulple hours from there..(and INDY too ;)) We could have like a regional meet or something...

Unfortuantely I only lived in Louisville for a few months, but the whole Cherokee Triangle area is lovely. Ear-X-Tasy is a great record store, don't remember Lynn's, though if it's even halfway decent I probably wouldn't, my time there was much too wasted (both literally AND figuratively) being a snarling lil' punk rawk girl. :D

Let's see if we get any interest on this thread regarding that, if not, we can start one specifically for it.:)

ps--Shively!! :o

21. I know Shively is a good place to be from....
far from. The Watterson took our house when it crossed Dixie Dieway.

There are some nice places to eat right off I-75 at exit 108. I don't think anyone would get too lost finding the place. Rafferty's is pretty good. they don't mind noise, and just might have private dining areas.

24. I'm a transplant
Came here a couple years ago (family reasons) and just haven't been able to escape yet. I won't lie and say I've grown to love it, but it'd be great to get some political activism in this area. FAR too many Bush-loving zombies around here. :grr:

25. Boyd County used to be pretty good for Democrats.
not sure how it is now, but that county has gone Democratic on a number of occasions.....

For yr meetup im thinking if its going to be Kentucky it would have to be someplace like Lexington thats more or less central

If u want a regional meetup for yr local area you probably need to bring in folks from WVA and Southern Ohio....

22. ..you should have it at Greenbo Lake..at the lodge.
i know this isnt relevant to the thread but I am a Kentuckian sort of..(altho now live in Ohio) and am glad to see the Commenwealth represented here at DU...

....the Huntington/Ashland area is sort of an interesting place....actually sort of suprising as its fairly industrial and urbanized, and also somewhat pleasant with those neighborhoods up in the hills....and some nice parks. Ive been there for vacation weekends a few times.

But for a meeting id suggest the lodge at Greenbo Lake as thats a nice setting. The food in the KY State Park lodges is pretty good too.
