WTF??? Andy Samberg, and other stunningly un-funny comics
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 12:21 AM by dawgmom
OK, maybe its an age thing. Is it an age thing? Andy Samberg does not make me laugh. Ever. In fact, most of his stuff actually annoys me. So, I've started a list. It's entitled,
"Comics who do not make me laugh" or "Why the hell do these losers have a career?" The list thus far:

Andy Samberg
Dane Cook (Endless stories that go nowhere, accompanied by spastic on-stage movements)
Sarah Silvermann (Vulgarity, with the occasional body-function reference thrown in for good measure)
Added, on edit: Chelsea Handler

1. I'll agree with you on Sarah Silvermann
She's not funny AND she's mean. I really don't like mean spirited comics.

4. Agreed. She IS mean
And I was so disappointed in Matt Damon, when he did that video with her. I always really liked him, but boy, I lost a lot of respect for him when he did that.

2. Jim Norton, Carlos Mencia, Colin Quinn, all horrible along with the ones you've already listed
but i will admit i did love the movie Hot Rod, it was just stupid.

3. Didn't know who Jim Norton was...
...so I youtubed him. Those are five minutes of my life I'll never get back -- wasted on listening to his un-funny idiocy. I got as far as his ruminations on socking a dog in the stomach and watching his asshole pop out; that was enough for me.

Agree on Colin Quinn and the un-funny mind of Mencia, also.

5. David Cross is one of my favorites, along with the Richard Pryor and Mitch Hedberg.
I also love Margaret Cho and Kathy Griffin, i saw both of them live in the past few years and their shows were hilarious and they love their audience.

6. Don't know David Cross -- agree on the others
All you mentioned are very, very funny. And the thing is, they're profane -- but profane does not equal vulgar. That's what I find so completely offensive about Silvermann. She's vulgar. She seems to think it's funny to just be vulgar and even disgusting, just for shock value. The low point for me was that bit she did where she pretended to lick a dog's ass. I thought I'd barf.

7. You should check David Cross on youtube if you get a chance, he was also in
and wrote Mr. Show which is side splitting and arrested development. I think you'd like him.

8. Ohhh! I do know who David Cross is
He's hysterical. Thank you for reminding me.
Do you know who I miss? Speaking of seeing people live....Paula Poundstone. I know she had sort of breakdown, and got into some trouble related to the foster kids she was keeping, but I think she's reviving her career now. I saw recently where she was playing a small venue somewhere. I saw her probably about 10 years ago at the Warner in DC, and she was amazing. About half of her material was completely improvised, just riffing with people in the crowd, playing off conversations with them. She was brilliant.

11. David Cross does stand-up? Tobias Funke?
He was HILARIOUS on Arrested Development. I'll have to check out his stand-up stuff.

My favorite comic today is probably Patton Oswalt. He doesn't rely on gross-out vulgarity, and he has some great "geek-friendly" stuff in his routines.

I could never figure out the deal with Dane Cook. Why do some people find that guy funny?

9. No you're 100% right
I can't stand them, more specifically Dane Cook, although Andy is tolerable, and SOME of his stuff has been funny. But Dane Cook just pisses me off to no end, and I hate when my friends say they think he's hilarious.

By the way, I'm 17, so it's not just an age thing. Dane Cook is just an A-Grade Douche.

10. Even Larry the Cable Guy is funny compared to Dane Cook.
I can get the occasional chuckle off of Larry, though he wallows in the scatological way too much.

Gallagher is also monumentally unfunny.

I kinda like Silverman, though, especially as a stand-up. Yeah, her character on her show is utterly self-absorbed, and that may come off as mean-spirited.

12. Silverman has made me laugh once or twice.
Don't know who Handler is, have to look that one up. But the first two... yeah. Not even funny. Not sure how one can be considered a comic if they're not funny.

Oh, also, Dane Cook steals material from other comics.

13. his rap about the Chronicles of Narnia was pretty funny -
I think that's the same guy. I kind of like the absurdity (crude and naive?), it reminds me a little of Carlin and other 70s comedians.

Silvermann's spoofs tend to be too crude for some folks, but her music parodies are quite funny.

14. Pablo Francisco
Every so often he turns up on the morning radio show I listen to in the morning, and he's cringeworthy. I really mean cringeworthy.

I doubt I can think of a comic worse than Pablo Francisco, he's that bad. The dude has no concept of a punchline; he just thinks repeating the same 3 voices over and over again is somehow "humor".

16. I don't know who most of those people are
Sarah Silvermann, however, I think is incredibly hilarious. Maybe it is an age thing...... I don't know how old you are, but she's about my age, and I think her humour is spot-on. Her skits and things aren't nearly as good as her stand up though.
