1. Without a brokered convention, it looks as if we're in for business as
usual. We see where that's taken us. Sure, I'll be glad that Bush is out, but, that aside, what's the cause for celebration?

2. The cause for celebration?
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 01:09 AM by Gringo
I know what you mean about the status quo, but the last 3 years have been hell. Rightwingers were never so hateful, brainwashed, vindictive and McCarthyite back in the Reagan/Bush years than they have been of late. 9-11 has made them think they have license to demonize, marginalize and ridicule anyone whose politics are left of Atilla the Hun.

That's the reason. I'll be celebrating because my belief that Americans are NOT mostly hateful, dittohead nuts will have been upheld. The dittoheads now think that they are "mainstream" proving them dead wrong will do my heart MUCH good.

7. Agreed, but I was hoping for a more difinitive change.
I'm definitely ABB, but I think that another status quo President is another nail in our coffin. I won't vote against the Dem, but I think it's a shame that we can't get a Dem nominee that's not a business-as-usual insider (I have specifics...I'm just being kind).

3. If the quality of life improves...
and I feel safer in my bed at night, then I'll rejoice. First, let's get Bush OUT.

Let's not get lazy like I did after Clinton got in, and just assume that everything's hunky dory and we don't have t watch our backs anymore.

I agree with a lot of the antiABBers: Kerry is indeed a compromised candidate, and we are indeed faced with a brokered convention. It's OUR job to hold Johnny's feet to the fire....

But: all of this is hypothetical. Let's make sure the race isn't close enough for Diebold to tamper with first.

5. Personally, I'll be out in the street whooping it up...
...
firing my AK47 into the air.
No, wait, I don't have an AK.
We don't do that kind of thing here.
But believe me, I'll party like it's 2099.
I don't care what Dem knocks him off.
I'll vote for a toaster oven before Bush.
For me, his defeat will be right up there with the day Nixon resigned as one of the greatest days in American history.

6. MinnFats, I'm with you
No AK-47 here, either, but I'll be raising the first of many glasses in celebration, dancing in the streets, playing "Happy Days Are Here Again" (or happier, at least), and calling friends and family far away who I know will share my feelings of utter relief.

I dearly hope we'll have such a day later this year.

ABB all the way, baby!

8. I honestly believe
there will be fireworks going off in some countries if Bush is defeated. We as a nation, MUST defeat him, or else we look like a big bunch of fools.

I myself think I will call my liberal friends and we will rejoice.

It's not a done deal though...and I don't want to be dissapointed, so I'm optimistic, but I'm not going to get my hopes up yet!

9. Take it in steps-Get Bush* out. Celebrate. Keep John honest. Fight the RW.
Even with a Democratic victory in November, the right wing isn't going anywhere -- remember what they did during Clinton's watch.

Getting Bush* out is the #1 priority -- yes, ABB.

With that accomplished, let all hell break loose for one day only: gloat, dance in the end zone, rub a few noses, get drunk as a lord, whatever.

Then, John (and John?) must be responsive to the Democratic ideals -- the convention might be a help with this when the platform is adopted.

Finally, and this is most important -- keep fighting the right wing. They will be angry at being turned out, and they will do *anything* to get back into power -- we have seen this.

Maybe, with some hard work and a spot of luck here and there, in a few years we can get our country back on track.

11. I plan to do the following
1) gather with my other young democrat / liberal friends and gloat in front of the headquarters of the College Republicans at my college .

2) yell out a loud " hot damn ! " when the graphic comes up on the scream that " ( enter Democratic Candidates name here ) is the 44th President of the United States of America ."

3) make preparations to travel to Washington , D.C on January 20 , 2005 to witness the day of the new dawn in American History .

4) Sing " Ding Dong the Shrub is gone ! " to my right winged relatives .

We were notified when our local radio station played "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead". Carhorns were blowing everywhere.

12. I'll resurrect my best Andres Cantor impersonation
You know that guy, the soccer commentator.

As soon as they called Florida in 2000, I abused my rightwing neighborhood, windows open:

"Goooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre!!!!!!!!!!!"

I swear I broke Andres' record, two minutes and counting. Several times, until the strange "actual" numbers started rolling in.

I have to give my neighbors credit. None of them ever rubbed it in.

"Kerry" doesn't fit that song, too many damn syllables. Minus a Howard Dean miracle, I'll have to shriek or bang an alternate tune.

15. There will be lots of hugging and
whooping it up at my house! Fireworks too!

Then we'll get serious again, because there will be a lot of dirty nastiness coming from the right side as they scramble to sabotage our new POTUS. In fact, I don't doubt the right is already working on Plan B just in case they lose.

January 2005 equals party time here.

I can't wait.
