5. Randy Newman and his big black dog Dan -Birmingham
Birmingham Birmingham
The greatest city in Alabam'
You can travel 'cross this entire land
But there's no place like Birmingham

got a wife named Mary
But she's called Marie
We live in a three room house
With a pepper tree
And I work all day in the factory
That's alright with me

Got a big black dog
And his name is Dan
Who lives in my backyard in Birmingham
He is the meanest dog in Alabam'
Get 'em Dan

Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.
Oh, oh, child, way you shake that thing
Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way
Watch your honey drip, cant keep away.

9. I Love My Dog ~ Cat Stevens
http://www.youtube.com/v/5WKj0JGCZ7M&hl=en&fs=1

I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

All he asks from me is the food to give him strength
All he ever needs is love and that he knows hell get

So, I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

All the pay I need comes shining through his eyes
I dont need no cold water to make me realize that

I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

Na, na, na, na, na, na, nana...

I love my dog as much as I love you
But you may fade, my dog will always come through.

Na, na, na, na, na, na, nana...

I love my dog, baby, I love my dog. na, na, na...
I love my dog, baby, I love my dog. na, na, na...

13. "All Good Things"
Okay '70s kiddies, time to appreciate Klaatu! (This is such a sweet song. I'm so sorry Klaatu weren't more famous in their time...)

I never had a closer friend than you
I never had such good times as the ones we used to have together
You're the one I told my problems to
Throughout the years remained true blue
No I never had a closer friend than you

But all good things must end
No use trying to pretend it isn't so
When it's time you gotta go
But I never had a better friend than you

I know it sounds a trifle odd
To those who've never had a dog
But I never had a closer friend than you

But all good things must end
No use crying for the dead and that's a fact
All my tears won't bring you back
But I never had a better friend than you
No I'll never have a better friend than you

And your next canine will be quite fortunate to get a new best friend, too.

Have you chosen a dog yet, or are you going to meet the candidates tomorrow?

22. I had a search on for the next one at all the shelters in the country
It took a couple of months. My last dog was a leonberger mix from a shelter (a few months old) and this one is too:

Just one look and I was smitten. I am driving 500 miles to get him and I will see him tomorrow afternoon.

24. My last one looked a lot like this
except his legs were blonde instead of black. Leos are gorgeous and expensive. If you want a purebred, you pay $1400-$2000 for a dog and sign breeding contracts. I could never afford one. The rescue groups have an application that is 10pp. long.

Harry had the sweetest personality in the world- the breed is like that- and most of the giant breed dogs are very laid back and gentle. But they are also usually huge - 100 lbs plus - so I think its even better to have a mixed breed (smaller) because they less likely to have hip problems, more likely to live longer, and they cost less!

14. Shannon - by Henry Gross

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzB5OZpksoY

ANOTHER DAY IS AT END
MAMA SAYS SHE'S TIRED AGAIN
NO ONE CAN EVEN BEGIN TO TELL HER

I HARDLY KNOW WHAT TO SAY
BUT MAYBE IT'S BETTER THAT WAY
IF PAPA WERE HERE I'M SURE HE'D TELL HER

SHANNON IS GONE I HOPE SHE'S DRIFTING OUT TO SEA
SHE ALWAYS LOVED TO SWIM AWAY
MAYBE SHE'LL FIND AN ISLAND WITH A SHADY TREE
JUST LIKE THE ONE IN OUR BACKYARD

MAMA TRIES HARD TO PRETEND THINGS WILL GET
BETTER AGAIN
SOMEHOW SHE'S KEEPING IT ALL INSIDE HER

BUT FINALLY THE TEARS FILL OUR EYES
AND I KNOW THAT SOMEWHERE TONIGHT
SHE KNOWS HOW MUCH WE REALLY MISS HER

SHANNON IS GONE I HOPE SHE'S DRIFTING OUT TO SEA
SHE ALWAYS LOVED TO SWIM AWAY
MAYBE SHE'LL FIND AN ISLAND WITH A SHADY TREE
JUST LIKE THE ONE IN OUR BACKYARD

You aint nothin but a hound dog
Cryin all the time.
You aint nothin but a hound dog
Cryin all the time.
Well, you aint never caught a rabbit
And you aint no friend of mine.

When they said you was high classed,
Well, that was just a lie.
When they said you was high classed,
Well, that was just a lie.
You aint never caught a rabbit
And you aint no friend of mine.

16. George Clinton --Atomic dog!
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 10:56 AM by davsand
Yeah, this is a story of a famous dog
For the dog that chases its tail will be dizzy
These are clapping dogs, rhythmic dogs
Harmonic dogs, house dogs, street dogs
Dog of the world unite
Dancin' dogs
Yeah
Countin' dogs, funky dogs
Nasty dogs (Dog)

Atomic dog
Atomic dog

Like the boys
When they're out there walkin' the streets
May compete
Nothin' but the dog in ya

Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah

Like the boys
When they're out there walkin' the streets
May compete
Nothin' but the dog in ya

Why must I feel like that
Oh, why must I chase the cat

Like the boys
When they're out there walkin' the streets
May compete
Nothin' but the dog in ya

Ruff
Ruff
Ruff

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me

Do the dogcatcher, dogcatcher
Do the dogcatcher
Do the dogcatcher, dogcatcher
Do the dogcatcher

Do the dogcatcher, baby, do the dogcatcher
Ooh

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Nothin' but the dog in me

Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah

Just walkin' the dog
Oh, atomic dog

Futuristic bow-wow

Ruff

Leader of the pack
Wild dog

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Just the dog in me
Nothin' but the dog in me

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
Just the dog in me
Nothin' but the dog in me

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat
The dog in me (Dog in me)
The dog is in me (Dog in me)

Do the dogcatcher, dogcatcher
Do the dogcatcher
Do you wanna do the dogcatcher
Well, baby, why don't you do it again for me

Dogcatcher, dogcatcher
Do the dogcatcher

House-trained dogs
Wild dogs
Say it again

Why must I feel like that
Why must I chase the cat

20. From Sir Paul:

Martha my dear though I spend my days in conversation
Please
Remember me Martha my love
Don't forget me Martha my dear

Hold your head up you silly girl look what you've done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly Girl.

Take a good look around you
Take a good look you're bound to see
That you and me were meant to be for each other
Silly girl.

Hold your hand out you silly girl see what you've done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly girl.

Martha my dear you have always been my inspiration
Please
Be good to me Martha my love
Don't forget me Martha my dear.

"It is reported by others that the title "Martha My Dear" was inspired by McCartney's Old English Sheepdog, also named Martha"

26. "Drive By" by Glen Phillips
I was the driver for the drive-by of the neighbor’s dog
Dad had always hated him and he said “Come on son,
“Get into the Vega now and I’ll go get my shotgun”

It was a military holiday and kids were everywhere
I hid behind the steering wheel and tried to disappear
I tried to speak but couldn’t, dad was whistling and drinking beer

And I prayed: Dear God, if you save this dog
I will never get high, I will never jack off
I will do all the things that I should but have not
I’ll be a good boy from now on

We turned around the corner soon and saw the neighbor’s yard
Dad lit up a cigarette and rolled his window down
And grinning like an idiot he stuck his head and body out

And I prayed: Dear God, if you save this dog
I will never get high, I will never jack off
I will be all the things that I should but am not
I’ll be a good boy from now on
I’ll be a good boy from now on

Well he popped in a shell and took aim with the gun
Then a flash and a bang and the dog, it was gone....

It jumped up and ran away
Dad had shot right through its chain

Dad said “Take me to the Dairy Queen, I want to have a shake”
We sipped them on the benches there and stared out on the lake
And Dad has never said another word about that day

I hope you’re not disappointed, God
‘Cause I still get high and I still jack off
And you knew I was lying but you still saved that dog
You’re such a good God
Such a good, good God
And I say Hallelujah
I’ll be a good boy from now on
