I'm making lasagna for the man who lives downstairs. He installed my dryer for me (natural gas) when Sears wanted $200 to install it. He also fixed my driver's door mirror. I kind of got too close to a pole and these mirrors are fixed... x( He drilled a few holes in the casing, replaced the broken screws and now I can take off the duct tape. :)

Anyway, I promised I'd bring down dinner for him and his son. Oh, and a Blockbuster Gift Card. They have movie night once a week.

I'd better get dressed and to the store.

39. a stray cat is trying to either train me or adopt me

Last Friday a neighbor saw him/her mewing at my back door early morning. Since ten I've seen and fed this black and white several times. Showed up about midnight and 6:30 or 7:00 a.m.. So now he's got me living like a cat, sacking out all afternoon so I can be on dooty. But last night the cat I started calling Minnie Mouse and who turned out to be all very Mickey Mouse showed up at 9:30 p.m. stayed until almost 2:00 a.m. Was there when I got up at 9:30 a.m. and had made inroads on the dish I had left just inside my door. When I get up in the early a.m. to pee I open the door for the catz.He is very pettable, unflappable, comes when called, eats incredible volumes of food (looks pretty good but needs a much thicker coat for winter). I am certainly going to keep feeding him. He jumps up one story to get to my roof deck, probably off a car, but still an Olympian feat. But I wantz to get him a home for Chrismuss and Thanksgivung 2. I'm afraid that come winter he may not be able to navigate through big snow that accumulates out there . So, happy, lots of unexpected drama here, but worried too cuz I always think it's up to me to DO something. I don't have much faith that someone else will do something. I have 4 cats already and that is really more than I can handle or afford...but I will drop dead doing it before I disappoint any one of them. But a fifth...no can do. So my heart is kind of hurting, and my head too. I don't have a huge pool of people to canvass about adoption. And he may be some asshole's cat who is just doing a piss-poor job of caring for him, or an abandoned pet. He has turned to me and me gotz to do sumthing.

Hope to get a night's sleep myself. Mickey has been accommodating himself to my hours a bit more..and spending more time up here on the roof. He eats like a dog...a BIG dog. Getting chilly tonight...I wish he would come in to sleep, but god knows what kind of hell that would unleash. Cats really become cats when Mom is sleeping or out. After that it's The Innocence Project. I wish I had met him in June; I would have had the whole summer to figger on this challenge.

Sorry I missed this thread yesterday. I've been having computer problems. I actually replied twice to your latest song post, but lost it both times. I can be sitting here, typing or reading, and the screen just goes black and I have to bring the computer up again and start over... *sigh*

As for Jackie, we went to the doggy class on Saturday, met malta blue there (her little Zeus is just adorable, as are all the pups in our class), and I have high hopes. Again. My big problem is that they use treats for positive reinforcement and Jack wouldn't touch anything I offered. Or the instructor offered, or his vet... :shrug:

I love all of these pix, but the toilet paper pup resonates with me, too. As I've told you, Jack will eat anything, and has...:-(

I have an idea for Jack. Instead of regular dog treats, pieces of meat. Diced ham or hotdog, bologna, cheese. A ziploc of em. Something he can't help but take as a treat.

I may be off the mark here, but I was thinking that the mechanics of reward for behavior are paramount, and once the mechanics are in place, other treats might suffice.
