1. Yes, it is hard!
It'll get easier... then harder... then easier... then REALLY hard.

You're in for a lifelong roller coaster, Shell! :)

2. it gets easier - I think a newborn is a lot of work
try to get some sleep and take care of yourself.

Nothing smells as good as a newborn with that new baby smell.

4. Sleep when the baby sleeps.
Sleep when the baby sleeps. Let the laundry pile up, don't answer the phone. Give yourself time to eat, and do eat well.

We didn't become moms because we wanted to do something easy. I was just snuggling our three year old son this morning and I couldn't believe how big and long (and bossy) he is. It really does seem like yesterday that I was crying from post-partum exhaustion and incessant breastfeeding.

Love that baby up. That baby picked you for a reason, the little smartypants.

12. I second the "sleep when baby sleeps" advice
Don't try to cook. Get the phone numbers of restaurants that deliver, or have someone pick up take-out.

If you can afford it, hire a maid for two or three days a week. If not, and someone offers to help, don't be shy. Say "Thanks. Do my laundry".

And congratulations. New babies are fun, even if they wear you out.

11. You have someone there helping, right?
It's so hard nobody should ever have to go through those first weeks without someone there to help.

Hope you're enjoying the quieter moments. :)

13. I bet you're doing great!
It IS hard, but it gets easier. Once she's on a 'schedule' of sorts, you'll be able to do things around her feeding/sleeping.

And, she's a doll, Shell!
