My sweet little dog is very ill. It started yesterday with vomiting. At first I just thought he'd eaten something bad in the yard, maybe a lizard or bug. Then last night he started refusing food and water and became progressively more lethargic. I'm very concerned. The vet opens at 8, and I'm fixing to head out right now so I'm there as they open the doors.

Please think good thoughts for Bear, he truly is a member of the family and my boys would be devastated to lose him.

8. Just heard from the Vet

They tried for a stool sample, but there's just nothing there. He hasn't eaten since yesterday morning so I'm not surprised. His temperature was down and he was getting dehydrated, so they know something is going on, we're just going to have to look deeper. The vet felt his stomach and said he didn't feel any obstruction, but we're going to do x-rays and blood work just to be sure.

10. X-Rays and blood work are back

No obvious obstruction in the X-rays, blood work basically normal. Glucose is slightly elevated but they said that's not uncommon when under stress.

So, they are starting IV fluids, antibiotics and anti nausea medicine. He's going to stay overnight and hopefully will be improving by in the morning and we can chalk this one up to ate something really nasty. Otherwise we continue to look for what's wrong.

He's been on Purina Beneful for several months now. Just today I was reading on the Consumerist about people finding maggots in bags of Beneful! I poured out the remaining food in his bag and didn't see anything, but I'm going to talk with the vet tomorrow and see if there's a possible connection.
