I don't care if it is approved by Adam's estate or not, there is no way this will end well.

1. Some of the new James Bond books have been better than some of the originals

2. But a spy novel is a spy novel. Adams' work has a certain tone,
a unique comedic voice that no one can imitate.

4. I think it's difficult to compare the two.
Also, I haven't read any of the James Bond novels, so I can't really make a judgement.
I have read all the Hitchhiker books and I think that is a difficult act to follow, especially by another author.

6. It's been years since I read an Ian Fleming Bond book, but I
don't remember any unique voice that was all his own.

3. Didn't Adams destroy the universe in the last book?

11. Well, the Earth at least
That probably makes it the first series in s/f history to destroy the Earth twice!

7. Deep Thought must...
build another planet, er, computer to run a program to decide if Deep Thought likes this or not.

Hopefully this time it won't be blown up.... ;)

ok now I need to edit to add that now that I've read the article and see that the writer is going to be Eoin Colfer I don't think it will be awful.

9. Illegitimate.
Why can't they just let it be? He's gone and no one can duplicate his work. Sad.

10. Bear in mind the *original* HHGG - the radio series - had a co-writer
for the 5th and 6th episodes - John Lloyd - so it has never been solely Adams' writing.

12. Not only that, but...
Adams himself has stated repeatedly that there are multiple "definitive" HHGG out there, each different from the rest.
