Weigh in on this, loungers.
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 02:37 PM by HEyHEY
I was at a party and was talking to a woman whose Member of Parliament came to her front door (It's an election here too). The dude brought his kids with him. This is something not really done in Canadian politics. I remember a few years ago when Joe Clark was running for PM he had his hot adult daughters at a speech and he took flak from the media who accused him of using his children for political purposes.
Anyway, I started arguing with this woman because, I think it's unacceptable to bring your children into your political career. She disagreed and said it shows the person's more human side and let's people understand they have a family and hence know what families care about. FUCK THAT, Sez I. I don't give a fuck why they are there, you're flat out using children for political gain and that's wrong. Even then all it tells me is that you can reproduce, one of the most basic human functions. It's like, "Wow, can you also turn food into energy?"

Not to mention how much FUN the kids must have going door to door with their parent :eyes:
What do you think, is it acceptable?

1. I'm too busy being floored at politicians going door to door.
Even our local-level folks don't do that.

2. Really? That's the best way to get votes, man.
Surprises me they don't do it. My dad knocked on more than 2,000 doors personally one year.

3. Thats happened here in the past
Do you know that RW idiot Linda Chavez? When she was running for US Senate vs. Mikulski (I think). She came to the door at my mothers house. Needless to say my mom was NOT impressed (but maybe this had to do that some of Mikulski's relatives live down the street....

Evidently the RW moron on the doorstep of mothers tactic just doesn't work as well in the US
I guess we're too sophisticated for that.

4. Senator Rick Santorum showed up at my mother's doorstep on election day 2004.
He was campaigning for Bush. He won no votes in that house.

13. I like the arrogant attitude that only people who reproduce
can understand and care about children and families. Ah MP, kids aren't the only people who make a family.

And yeah, why aren't those kids in school or out having some fun with other kids?

Make the campaigning a little more interesting for the candidate.

But yeah, bringing your kids is bullshit.

"Why are he-, um, heck are you here stumping for that fu-, um, farcical idi-, um, individual in the White House? Have your brains liquified in your skull and drizzled out of your a-, um, bottom? Do I look like I took a fu-, er, a sharp blow to the head recently? Or is your head just so far up Bush's a-, er, back door that you get an eyewitness account when he's sucking Big Oil's co-, um, popsicle???"

23. I hate people that think that kind of shit actually matters.
I talked to a person the other day that was singing praises about Palin because she has so damn many kids. "Well, I can tell she can multi-task because she has so many kids. I also means that she knows what matters to families.", she said. I said, "No, all you can tell is that she's fertile."

It amazes me that some people have the mentality that if you don't have kids you could never fathom what matters in the day to day living of people. Like if we were put in charge suddenly the whole federal budget would be devoted to pornography and building alters to Satan.

I think, for the most part, matters of "character" should be inconsequential to voters. Media shouldn't cover it and people shouldn't care. All it does is give low information voters more reason to not actually develop informed opinions.
