I lost a beloved aunt tonight.
She was 87 years old, my mother's sister. One cannot feel too sad about a long life lived, but I will always remember her many kindnesses to me in a time that - though I was very young - I didn't feel much like living.

Of all the people who knew me, she knew me best, my weaknesses, my demons, my strengths, my angels; she taught moderation, and how one should accept one's self. In the worst of times, I could tell her anything, and she helped to bring back, so that one day I could be a friend, a husband, a father.

I am thankful for her life, because in many ways it was my own.

2. I'm sorry
Aunts are that way, often, it seems.

They make up the missing pieces, sometimes, that parents lack.

4. Very true.
She was very kind to her brother-in-law, my father, in his widowhood.

12. So sorry for your loss, NNadir. As an Aunt myself
and with no kids of my own, I'm very close to my nephew who's only 13 right now--and I think of him almost like a son.

I'm glad your Aunt made such a positive influence on your life. It's good to know we Aunts can make a big difference.

24. Thank you. It is good you are close to your nephew.
My sons have an unmarried childless aunt who is very good to them as well. Another treasure for our family.

My aunt had her own children, but she made time for me, particularly when my mother died.

My helped physically and emotionally in the time of my mother's illness. She was generous and loving as a sister as well as an aunt.

It seems odd to live in a world where she is not there.
