It didn't help. How was your day?

1. One of my favorite poems about that.
Yesterday, I Cried
By Iyanla Vanzant

Yesterday, I cried.
I came home, went straight to my room, sat on the edge of my bed,
kicked off my shoes, unhooked my bra,
and I had myself a good cry.
I'm telling you,
I cried until my nose was running all over the silk blouse I
got on sale.
I cried until my ears were hot.
I cried until my head was hurting so bad
that I could hardly see the pile of soiled tissues lying on
the floor at my feet.
I want you to understand,
I had myself a really good cry yesterday.
Yesterday, I cried,
for all the days that I was too busy, or too tired, or too mad
to cry.
I cried for all the days, and all the ways,
and all the times I had dishonored, disrepected, and disconnected
my Self from myself,
only to have it reflected back to me in the ways others
did to me
the same things I had already done to myself.
I cried for all the things I had given, only to have them stolen;
for all the things I had asked for that had yet to show up;
for all the things I had accomplished, only to give them
away, to people in circumstances,
which left me feeling empty, and battered and plain
old used.
I cried because there really does come a time when the only thing left
for you to do is cry.
Yesterday, I cried.
I cried because little boys get left by their daddies;
and little girls get forgotten by their mommies;
and daddies don't know what to do, so they leave;
and mommies get left, so they get mad.
I cried because I had a little boy, and because I was a little girl,
and
because I was a mommy who didn't know what to do, and
Because I wanted my daddy to be there for me so badly until
I ached.
Yesterday, I cried.
I cried because I hurt. I cried because I was hurt.
I cried because hurt has no place to go
except deeper into the pain that caused it in the first place,
and when it gets there, the hurt wakes you up.
I cried because it was too late. I cired because it was time.
I cried because my soul knew everything I needed to know.
I cried a soulful cry yesterday, and it felt so good.
It felt so very, very bad.
In the midst of my crying, I felt my freedom coming,
Because
Yesterday, I cried
with an agenda.

Hope you feel better soon.

2. Good cries can help!
I had a few last week. :pals:

My day was long...5 hours sleep, meeting with my thesis adviser, then work all day. I'm tired, but awake. No work tomorrow, but skool begins in a week. Ew.

:)

Sorry to hear about your long day. Get some rest tomorrow. What's your thesis on?

And thanks for the :pals:

11. My thesis:
Is about risk analysis and decision making with regard to plagiarism in the undergraduate community. Behavioral Econ stuff. Debunking expected utility theory. Geek-out.

I have to present my research at a professional conference in December...I'm so screwed.

10. A bunch of reasons. First, Saturday was my mom's b-day, and I still miss her so much.
Then there was this Lincoln Centennial celebration this weekend, and between the "ecumenical" service that my congregation wasn't invited to participate in and the fact that there was no mention of the issue Lincoln came here to debate and the (granted small) African American community was not involved at all, I found the whole celebration really silly. So, yesterday I wrote a letter to the editor complaining--rather mildly, but still--about both of these things and now I'm worried that people will be offended and maybe I shouldn't have written it and it's not like me to do that so I don't know why I did...

And a candidate for ministry who's going to be ordained soon (probably) told one of my parishioners (who already doesn't like me) that she could be our lay delegate at her ordination council and I had to tell her that we have an elected representative who does that so I'm the big bad meany who just likes pissing on her parades all the time. And when I e-mailed this candidate a very delicately worded message asking if she might please explain to this woman why she can't be our rep (and said that maybe it was just a misunderstanding) I get a snarky e-mail back basically calling me a big bad meany. So, I'm left being the big bad meany.

So, I couldn't sleep last night so now my body aches as it does when I don't sleep well. And my car is making a noise and i need to get it looked at but don't know when I'll have time. And I'm supposed to leave on vacation Wednesday but my car is making a noise.
And my house is a terrible mess and I just can't seem to get my shit together.

And I hate living alone.

And I wish my mom were here so she could tell me that she loves me and it's all going to be all right.

Just one of those things can make a day be bad.

Just remember Monty Python. "Never Expect the Spanish Inquisition!"

(you thought I was going to say "always look on the bright side of life" now, come on admit it...)

((though both bits of Monty Python advice is always worth remembering))

All the best, Mark.

23. "Blessed are they that mourn"
I (65-year-old white male) often weep. I am touched by others' tragedies, radical change in my own life, the passing of dear cultural icons. I cried every time I watched "Imitation of Life".

I weep with you.

32. are you sure you are not living in my house? My mom's birthday was Saturday as well
and I miss her terribly.

I have trouble crying, and it usually doesn't help me much.

I did get a really good cry out of the convention last night though.

Surely it will get better for both of us soon.

35. I hope you have a nice time on your vacation, anyway ...
One of my friends took off for a couple of days -- just had to get out of town, because work was driving her nuts -- and she said that it was a really big help. So I hope things get better soon for you, mycritters2.

I guess I have been learning too that no matter what you do, there are going to be some people who don't like you, for whatever reason. And even if they are being unfair or are outright in the wrong, sometimes even when it backfires on them, they simply get angry and take it out on you. People are just like that sometimes. But they generally tend to have short attention spans and start blaming someone else pretty soon.

If I could show you pics of my terrible house, I am sure that it would make you feel better, because your place would look totally neat by comparison! (I live alone too, and no wonder ....) And things are only going to get worse this week because I have to get stuff ready for class (starting next week) and there will be paper all over the place!

Sorry you miss your mom ... you must have loved her very much.

8. I'm so sorry that you are so unhappy lately.
I don't know the specifics, but something I have lived by in the past is the C.A.L. theory. Hard to do with chronic depression, but sometimes it helps.

C.A.L. theory is:

Change it
Accept it, or
Learn to Live with it.

You get to pick one.

19. My bathroom ceiling caved in.
But that's par for the course for the last few months. First it was my car engine, then it was the sewer, then it was the IRS. Then the upstairs toilet started leaking into the downstairs bathroom, and we didn't have any money left to do anything about it except put buckets under the drips. Then my son, after brushing his teeth, boosted himself up on the sink to get a look at his pearly whites in the mirror, and the sink detached from the wall. It was fun holding the sink up for the next 20 minutes while Mr GoG shut the water off and detached the sink from the drain.

Tonight the ceiling caved in, as I figured it eventually would. Oh, and when I got my check from my gig tonight, it didn't reflect the extra $10/service that I was expecting; so I don't know what's up with that.

I'm way beyond tears. It seems to be monsoon season at our house, so the extra water would only make things worse.

I'm sorry you had a lousy day.:hug::hug:

29. Well, this afternoon I'm going in for a probable root canal. And I wouldn't be surprised
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 07:54 AM by mnhtnbb
if the tooth ends up being pulled. I've been on antibiotics for a week and I'm sure
the tooth is infected, after having a crown put on two weeks ago. Then my dentist went on vacation
and I had to see the person covering for him--who told me I had to wait until my dentist
came back and then get a referral.

So I've been living on ibuprofen and icing my face for a week.

Damn.
