They're fighting my unemployment claim
which makes no sense. It will be paid by Ohio, not Wisconsin.

:(

4. They always do. It seems clear to me that you deserve it.
They let you go with no good reason. I think you'll get paid. They're hoping you'll give up. Don't.

6. I move 450 miles to a strange city
pay for 10 days of motel bills out of my own pocket because the agency screwed up my start date and spent every dime I had to move here. Now I can pay my rent ONLY if I get 3 full weeks of unemployment. Electricity, food, gas and other essentials are out the window. I was just getting my credit rebuilt after my divorce.

I know you have to be aggressive when looking for another job, but I can't seem to find the strength any more. I just want to curl up in a ball...

7. STBE husband dealt with the same.
He pursued it and won the unemployment due him. I think it may be like some insurance companies, where claims are routinely denied in the hope that you won't fight the decision. Hugs for you, lizziegrace    You need a huge break.

12. Oh shit, Lizzie, I'm sorry
the world is just going nuts these days. When did our so-called civilization become so uncivilized? I wish I could offer more than a hug, you know you can call any time if you need to talk or what to get out (my treat).

14. My understanding, in Pennsylvania at least, is that...
Unless you were dismissed for willful misconduct (potentially including blowing off (part of) a shift, it's rare that a claimant is denied UC benefits. Assuming, of course, that you met the basic eligibility requirements, such as length of employment, etc.

Best of luck to you, because if they deny you, that totally sucks. Let us know how it turns out.

16. I got the impression from the call I got today from a claims manager
in Ohio was that he was likely going to approve it. I do not put any stock in this until the money actually appears in my account. And $1200/month in unemployment covers rent and car insurance. It slows the hemorrhaging, but doesn't delay the inevitable.

I'm sending out more resumes. You know I'm still getting final bills from the place I lived in Ohio? They aren't getting paid any time soon.

I want to run, but have nowhere to go and no means to get there. And another night's sleep will be lost until the ruling comes down.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'll stop now...

15. My company did that and won
a year and a half ago. I'm still paying it back. Corporate america is pure evil. They don't want us to even survive unless its for them.

Having said that, stand up for yourself. The DWD will investigate and they tend to be pretty fair. You shouldn't be denied compensation unless you did something awful.

18. Wishing you the best of luck.... one company that fired me tried to fight the UI claim
I hadn't been there a full year when I got a really awful fungal pneumonia. After dealing with it for months and it not going away, my doctor referred me to a pulmonary doctor, who immediately insisted that I take time off of work to actually heal, and also wanted to do a bronchoscopy to get cultures to find out what the junk would be susceptible to.

I ended up being absent a total of three weeks. I made sure my boss knew about what was happening, I even offered to let the specialist call her to speak with her about it. I faxed a copy of the instructions saying I had to stay home.

When I was finally released to go back to work, work release in hand, they fired me after me being there two hours.

I filed for UI. Fock that, they may have had the right to fire me (it's an at-will employment state and I hadn't been there a year for FMLA to take effect), but I deserved UI.

They fought the claim, saying that I never submitted any medical documentation, lying to the UI office. Of course, I had photocopies of every work release submitted to them, and the UI officer was impressed that I'd kept records.

The company later got fined quite a bit of money for lying, I found out. And I got my UI. But it took about three months.
