2. That kitty is going to need a whole lot of careful and thorough
brushing for his/her entire life. Fluffy kitties are absolutely beautiful, but I learned from my Maine Coon that they are a hell of a lot of work.

It's totally worth it though, if you can keep up with it.

5. Daily. Sometimes repeatedly in a day.
And often you need to take scissors and cut out tangles and snarles because they knotted before you could get the brush. :(

Of course, my cat was an indoor/outdoor cat in an area with a lot of woods and swamp, so my experience might not be representative. :P

I love Maine Coons though. If I could handle them, and if I had the choice, I'd probably have nothing but Maine Coons.

8. What color is this kitty?
:)

I love the state of Maine, too.
They are somehow related to Norweigan Forest Cats:

but slightly darker, and with more a bit more regular stripes. :)

12. A striped tabby.
the tiger stripes were very subtle on most of his body, but very obvious on his head like on that kitty. :)

16. I posted a picture of a marble tabby.
They are called that because the stripes swirl like on marble rye bread.

A spotted tabby has stripes on its sides, but on its underside it is spotted.

I have one that is blue (technical cat color jargon for dark gray) spotted tabby, a cream (jargon for a beige color), and a blue cream.

18. Two of my most favorite kitty breeds
along with Ragdolls. Don't anyone tell my Himalayan mix Max I said that, though, or there would be trouble.

My oldest friend and his wife have a Maine Coon that weighs 24 pounds. That is a LOT of cat. What's funny is that he has this tiny little voice. You practically expect him to roar and this little "mew" comes out.

22. My Pixie was 28 pounds at his largest
and he was still a successful hunter at that point so he wasn't just a fat cat.

He never could make much noise. He would try to "meow" and all you would hear was a quiet "ack." He could purr loudly, but he couldn't vocalize for some reason.

He learned to talk with his hands. He'd smack me when he wanted my attention. He would tap the door with his claws out when he wanted to go out or come in, and it sounded like someone was knocking on the door.

13. Yep, we've only got short-hairs.
Our allergies are worse with the long-haired cats, plus yeah, all the brushing. I love them and think they're adorable, especially as kittens, but we can't handle the extra furries.

14. Someone recently told me that they are more alergic to short-hairs
and I had never heard anyone say that before. I wonder how or why the long hairs might cause less of an alergic reaction.

When I'm an old lady, I fully plan on having a cattery. I love the kittehs too much.

19. That's the way it is with me
I have an allergic reaction to shorthairs, and the worst reaction i ever had was to a Sphynx. My longhair kitty doesn't bother me at all.

21. I'm sorry you have to be alergic to any cat.
:(

Any idea what makes the short-hairs and Sphynxs more alergen producing for you?

23. I think that the short hair allows more dander to escape
whereas longer haired cats don't "shed" as much dander. Generally I am much less allergic to cats than I was when I was a sprout, so maybe it's something I outgrew.

7. Ooooh, I wish I could sink my hands into that fur!!
I was traveling with relatives and their dogs for a week, and I missed my kitties terribly! There is nothing like that soft kitty fur. The dog fur just didn't give me the fur fix I needed -- it's way too coarse and kinda greasy or something.
