Today's rant about idiotic drivers. *^%$!@#%^**^%$#@@!!
Dear Idiots:

When it's daytime, and the pavement is dry, and there's hardly any traffic, and the speed limit on the surface street we're both driving on is 35 mph, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DRIVE 20 GODDAMNED MILES PER HOUR!! Really. I'm not kidding! Would I lie to you?

When the stop sign is still about 3 blocks away, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO PUT YOUR BREAKS ON AND DRIVE THOSE FINAL 3 BLOCKS AT THE LIGHTENING SPEED OF 5 FREAKIN' MILES PER HOUR!!! No, really! You don't need to do that. I promise.

When you approach said stop sign, and there are several cars there waiting for their turn to go, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO STOP 3 CAR LENGTHS BACK!! I can absolutely agree with you that stopping inside the trunk of the car in front of you is poor form. No problem. But THREE CAR LENGTHS????? What? You afraid there is a monster in the trunk of the car ahead of you, which will jump out if you stop any closer?????

Listen to me, idiots. You may think you're being safe, but really, YOU ARE AS MUCH A ROAD HAZARD AS THE DUMB FUCK WHO INSISTS ON TAILGATING, RUNNING STOP SIGNS, AND SPEEDING!!!!

If you're that scared of driving, stay home, take a taxi, get a friend to drive you, or take the bus. Just do the rest of us a favor and STAY AWAY FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT!!!!

:grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

:End of Rant:

when traffic on the interstate is going 65-70.

46. Ahem, I received a speeding ticket for that!
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 01:25 AM by Digit
I was traveling the onramp going 35, and once I hit the highway, I was speeding up to get to 55.
Damn Dulles Police Officer pulled me over going 50!

The "rule" is you have to go the speed limit of the ramp until you GET to the speed limit sign saying 55 or whatever.

I even went to court over it.

My defense was that I thought the speed limit was for the entire road and since I already knew what it was, I was gaining speed.
The judge asked if the speed limit sign was within sight, and it was. Keep in mind, I was ON the main road already!
Still, had to pay the ticket.

Talk about crazy!

61. Very few ramps here in FL have speed limit signs.
That is crazy. Here, pretty much only the long, curvy ramps have speed limit signs, because it is impossible to merge safely if you are going 25-30 mph below the speed of interstate traffic. That must have been a bored officer.

especially on the whole slowing down WAAAAY too soon before a stop sign.

May I also add going significantly slower than the flow of traffic while stubbornly hanging out in the FAST LANE. That's what leads to accidents cause the insanely fast drivers end up whipping in and out of all lanes causing hell for everyone.

Left lane=FAST

6. The grandmother of a friend of mine was ticketed for going 35 in
a 50 mph zone! Two lane road out in the rural area. Lots of places where you can't pass slower cars. And here this lady is, putting along 15 mph slower than the speed limit (also on a dry, sunny day).

When the cop stopped her, and asked if she was going slow because of a problem with her car. She said, "No, I just think 50 mph is too fast for this road."

While the cop wrote her a ticket for obstructing traffic, he said, "Ma'am, that may be your opinion, but that's NOT the speed limit!"

When my friend told me this story, we both cracked up!

14. the problem is that people drive way longer than is safe
and of course that differs with the person, but some old people don't have the same reflexes and mental capacity to harness such a powerful machine. if you can't handle the faster speed limits than you shouldn't be driving.

17. I agree completely.
My mom stopped driving about 16 months before she passed away. At the time she stopped driving, she was still in pretty good shape, but she said that she could tell her reflexes were slower than they used to be, and she didn't want to put herself or others in danger. Fortunately, all my siblings lived nearby, and she also had a lot of friends, so she had plenty of people to get rides from.

Oh, and I've found that if I slow down an 1/8 mile early, I can get another 6 mpg regardless of the 8 morons behind me that couldn't make the light behind me because of my slow ass and are now sitting idling for that light.

Damn I'm fucking cool.

Just yesterday I was on the highway and some lady driving a red SUV was driving ahead of me. She suddenly swerved onto the breakdown lane, waited for me to pass, and then got back on....

And the day before that, I had the wonderful experience of driving down US1 when suddenly a car turned onto the street in the wrong direction, heading right towards me. Thankfully I had no cars beside me so I easily switched lanes and got out of the way cause the dude wasn't stopping.

Such is the driving experience in Floriduh.

Aggressive drivers are pure morons who should be removed from the highways. I drive cross country and back virtually every year and fast impatient driving accounts for every accident and near-accident I see. I literally can't think of a single exception.

We get these rants once in a while, here and on other boards, simpleton belief that the careful drivers are actually as much of a problem.

Now that's math at it's finest. Yeah, much greater likelihood of chain reaction and bodily harm at slow speed than the explosive scattergun collisions caused by the speed dolts.

Once again, please let me wager on this...

59. How about this one: divided highway, limited access, crossed by two lane.
Both roads have very moderate traffic by standards anywhere else. The arrangement is a stop sign as you approach the highway, followed by a second stop sign in the median. In other words, you cross the two lanes going in one direction, then stop and wait for the traffic to clear in the other direction. It never takes more than a minute or two to cross the highway.

Now, who are the idiots who can't see my car sitting ahead of them in the median waiting to cross the second two lanes! I'm sitting there looking to my right getting ready to cross and the car that was behind me pulls up to my right. Now I'm left wondering if this bozo is going to pull ahead of me or wait!
Understand, we're both aiming for the same lane.

Friday I was sitting waiting to go west, there was a car sitting next to me waiting to go east, and a car pulled up to my right headed west, and a fourth car pulled up to the right of the east bound car!

63. Also, when you're trying to learn how to drive a stick shift.
The streets around the mall on sunday afternoon are not the place to do it!!! This happened to me today. Hey, idiots, it's gas first then clutch not clutch first otherwise you stall out (she did this 3 or 4 times at one intersection then decided on 20mph in a 40mph zone).

65. Bad form, indeed.
When I learned to drive a stick, I did it in a large parking lot of a closed business. Nobody around to annoy (except my then-BF  ).

67. Yeah, I always seem to get stuck behind people like that
when I'm trying to get my grandpa to dialysis and we're running late.

No, I'm not in any hurry, just getting my grandpa to a medical appointment that he needs to SURVIVE.
