Just saw "the Dark Knight." *SPOILERS*

*Do not read any further if you don't want spoilers about the new "Batman" movie!*

I went to see "the Dark Knight" with my mother and my nephew. My mother didn't like it at all. I think some of the most intriguing stuff just went right over her head. There was a bit about spying through devices inside people's cell phones, a version of the "ticking nuclear bomb" scenario, and other issues about dealing with terrorism that she just didn't recognize.

And what was with the inconclusive way the Joker's fate was dealt with? Last we saw him, he was dangling upside down off the side of a building. :wtf:

Maybe that's how your mom watched it too! Sometimes when I see action movies I'm not very sure what's happened, this one wasn't too hard though, compared to some.

(I left this window open and my computer shut off and now I turn it on and it's back but it's BEEN ALL DAY :dunce: :blush:)

2. The Joker

I think they planned to have him in the next movie. Of course, they did not anticipate Heath Ledger's death (the film was already completed by then), and they probably felt it would be cheesy or distasteful to throw something in about the Joker's death here.

Regardless, they'll have to deal with it in the next one....

3. They were in post-production

when he died. If they needed to reshoot or do a voice loop, they would've been in trouble.

It does seem they wrapped up the Joker quickly because they knew the character would be in the next one. I am not sure what they will do now.

4. I thought that the ending was a nice reversal of what happened to Nicholson's Joker

In Burton's execrable Batman:
Batman and Vicki Vale are hanging from the belltower, and Joker grabs the rope ladder from his goons' helicopter. Batman uses his grappling gun to tie the Joker to a heavy stone gargoyle, which breaks loose and hangs from Joker's ankle. Joker then loses his grip on the ladder and falls to his death, directly as a result of Batman's action.

In Nolan's excellent The Dark Knight:
Batman and Joker are tussling in the building, and Joker seemingly has the upper hand until Batman blasts him with his gauntlet-dart thingies. Joker falls, gleefully plummeting to his doom, until Batman saves him by snaring him with his grappling gun. A much more fitting end IMO because in the comics Batman has had countless opportunities to kill Joker but has always reined himself in, no matter how much he wants to.
