That touch that you applied to your posts, in and of itself, helped bring a certain level of civility to the Lounge. (Leaving aside the fact that the level of civility here is still about a half-step above a drunken bar fight at two AM, which of course is part of the reason we all like hanging out in the Lounge so much, and it's not just because anyone wants to see how long of a run-on sentence I can contrive, especially right now when I'm out in the screen porch (the heat has finally broken because we had some GREAT thunderstorms last night) and wondering if I can finish this post before the battery of my MacBook craps out, given that it's flashing at me because the charge level is below 20% and I'm just too damn lazy to go into the house and get the power cord / adapter, besides which I need to go to bed soon because there's a lot of work to be done tomorrow, given that I'm on deadline for magazine ads for two customers, and if I don't do the work, it's not like anyone is going to do it for me, are they?)

It's been three years? Seems like just yesterday, and I'm not joking about that.

I joined six years ago next month (yes, 2002, not 2001 as my profile says). DU is a vastly different place now than it was back then. DU is now much bigger, with many new faces, while some, of course, have left us.

Of course, our politics are a lot different. When I joined, September 11 had happened less than a year earlier, we were in the midst of a midterm election campaign, and I had never heard of Barack Obama. But now, it remains a place where I can feel welcome, in the midst of friends.

It is now, that I risk so much begin pushed over the edge and out... that I realize what a wonderful family DU can be in its best moments. If it gets tough now and then, just saying "I apologize. Let's reset" can make a big difference in how you feel about yourself and other people.
