Tactile

I wouldn’t touch the gloves he left in the lobby
because his cuticles were bloody, red and sore.
He wanted me to feel the swelling below his lip.
I stepped back, and said I could see it throbbing.

He is tired of telling me that he is tired, and he rolls
his eyes when I tell him to go home, soak in a hot bath.
He winks, Girlfriend, I’d just love me a bubble bath.
I ask again about his prognosis, hoping he remembers.

The last doctor said without meds, six to seven
months, and with my meds, maybe twenty more years.
He smiles. He’ll stop taking his meds again, and I want
him to die, because I can’t refuse to touch him anymore.

Haven't read her stories yet. Her novel was awful, I thought.

16. i was just introduced two semesters ago to her

in a writing fiction class(which i loathed, unfortunately), but i did get a little look into her poetry and a few of her short works.
and i do like her quite a bit.

15. Oh yeah.

I like to break them over the head with pieces like this and get conversations started. You should see how they reacted to Burrough's "Junky". Brilliant...but that's how I get the 10th graders during the first week of school when we talk about what we consider to be "good" writing. I check in here periodically for new ideas.

And to make sure that you are keeping Milwaukee literate.
