need some sugestions for affordable hotels in boston
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 10:57 PM by Ava
something affordable, and if not in town close to the subway so we can ride it into town or with a shuttle. we are hoping to take a trip to boston in october.

i have some filming for my documentary to do outside of town, and i was hoping to fit in an extra day to see campuses. october is my birthday month, so i was hoping to do it then to celebrate my bday.

3. Here's where we're staying next month...

Holiday Inn Express

But it's 4 miles to the Mbta-Silver Hill Station. The hotel provides a free shuttle to anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel and I'm betting we can pay them to take us another mile.

Too bad we can't be there at the same time.

4. I stayed at the Holiday Inn- Somerville
It was quite nice and not far from the Orange line.

However, the Orange Line isn't as nice as the Red and Green Lines, but it was only a couple of stops away from a Red Line Station. My husband and I took the Orange line straight to Filene's Basement. We also took the GreenLine frequently (as I was a student at BU), and I think there's a stop on the Orange line for the green line.

If you're looking at Unis, be sure to take the correct train on the Green Line. When I first moved to Boston, I accidentally took the C train, and heck it was a long walk to class!! I was supposed to take the B train, silly me. Also, don't ask why we don't have an A train... I just don't know :-D.

When I went to BU, it was free going towards Boston College. Now I think you have to pay these days, which is a bummer! Have fun! I enjoyed Boston for 5 years, and wouldn't mind living there if I had the money and if my husband and I weren't living in the UK!

6. Hawthorn Suites, Arlington.
You should be able to get a room for about $150/night there. It's on Massachusetts Ave @ the border with Cambridge. It's a straight bus ride from there to Harvard or a short bus ride to the Alewife T (subway) station. It's also in a decent neighborhood with some restaurants and small stores nearby.

Finding a cheap room in a place that isn't a dump AND is near the subway is a tall order in Boston. The Waltham area has many lodgings but you'd need to plan on driving to a T stop.

7. John Hancock near Copley Square
The rooms are tiny but you won't spend much time there anyway. It's right in the city in the Back Bay area; in walking distance of a lot including the train and we found it very affordable.

9. I enjoyed the Holiday Inn in Brookline, MA.
I went in 2000 for the Olympic Trials and it was a nice property.

And pretty affordable.

It's like a European small hotel. I'm not sure what big hotels around there charge these days but here's the website for you to take a look at Irving House- (click on "directions" for handy map, and bus and subway info.)
