This afternoon I noticed the sky's were getting darker and took a look out the window of my apartment in Orlando and in the distant you could hear thunder and an occasional bolt.
Well the rain picked up as did the winds and the convective activity so being new to Florida I decided to go outside on to the patio and watch....the neighbor next to me also came out to watch.......in about fifteen minutes the system had gone from moderate to all out HELL and the parking lot had about two inches of rain in it.
In closing while we were talking and watching a bolt of lightening went horizontal and hit a cabletv utility box about 150 feet to the right of us........we parted company and went inside our homes......The cable is now out.
That is the closest I have ever been to that stuff....it is clearing up as I type.
I was driving to work very early one morning in April when lighting hit an electrical transformer about twenty feet in front of me. Flames shot up from it and across the wire that was over the street. If I'd been going just a little bit faster I would've been right under it. It really freaked me out.
