3. That almost happened to my grandpa
He was coming in to SFO and the landing gear didn't come down.

The plane flew around for a few hours, waiting for the landing gear to come down, and meanwhile all the passengers had a first rate view of the assembled fire engines, ambulances, and the people foaming the runway.

At the last second the landing gear did come down and they landed safely.

But grandpa was not a big fan of air travel. :o
