My beautiful dog Corey died yesterday.

I had to give her to my ex-wife because I could not bring her to my new apartment. She was very happy there, she was with another English Bull Terrier a Chocolate Lab and a pocket dog of my Daughter's. She was 14 years, 4 months and 6 days old.

Yesterday morning about 4 AM she woke the house up screaming and twitching violently. They gave her a Valium but she wasn't doing well, and she couldn't walk. She had a lot of hemorrhaging in her eyes. When my Daughter took her to the Vet, (the one that screwed up on returning my other dog's ashes to me, who really is a good vet) they were positive she was having strokes and she was suffering.

For her sake, she was put to sleep yesterday morning. I sit here crying my eyes out because I was not with her when she passed. She was a wonderful dog, and I will miss her terribly.

11. First time in over 35 years I am without my dogs
I had saved her by adopting her, and gave her an extra 2 and a half years, but it just sucks losing them. I miss Buddha every day, and now with Corey gone it makes it worse.

When you live alone, all you have are your pets.

15. She was a three year old in a clown suit
She made people laugh. She is such a rare breed people probably never see one in their life time. I'd take her to PetSmart on Sundays and she'd spend an hour in the chewie isle sniffing everything then she'd pick out one and drag it off the shelf.

She loved other dogs, always made her wag her tail and go into a stretch ready to play.

When we ate it was always 'Give me mine, some of yours, and make me something else'.

Someday I will get another English Bull. She made me smile all the time.

16. I am so sorry DB for your loss and that you weren't able to be with Corey.
We had to take our 14+ yo Tanya to the vet to be peacefully put to sleep several weeks ago. I called
my oldest son to give him a chance to come say goodbye, and my younger son went with me to the vet.

It's such a sad time to lose a furry member of the family and so hard to make the decision.

I know, when I was divorced almost 30 years ago and got my Honey dog (a golden retriever mix) from the animal shelter, she was all I had since I lived alone.

Hugs to you.

19. My heart to you.
I know what you are going through because I had to have my girl Cinnamon put down Monday morning. I feel like a murderer and my other dog agrees. She just stares at me as if to say "what have you done with her". It is so sad.
But their vet says "time heals". THAT IS THE ONLY HOPE HERE. We must survive for the other animals. Pink thoughts go to you.

Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 01:09 PM by DainBramaged
He was my absolute favorite of all of my dogs, and I miss him every day. After he went, Corey spent nearly two weeks looking for him around the house and then when I let her sniff his collar, she stopped as if she knew.

Now there is no one to show her collar to.

He jumped out of his cubby and ran and jumped his fat ass in my lap and spent about an hour with me. Corey I got to visit last week. She was happy and enjoying her new friends. I just wish I had been there. I really wanted to be the last person she saw.

I cried as hard for her as I did for my big guy and my sinus hurts from the grief.

Some people will never understand the attachment we have for our pets. But that's OK. They fill that hole that humans can't, and it is as difficult when they are gone.

55. My Daughter is a very strong person, and it wasn't the first time
for her. Our beloved 11 year old Pogo died of a heart attack while we were eating in 1997. I think she realized then that our furbabies don't live forever. Then her Lab Zoe passed in 2004 and that really bothered her because Zoe was Pogo's replacement.

She now has a pocket dog named Brady. He is a sweetie, but I will forever be a large dog person.
