Otherlander amateur-ish poetry thread

They found a cure for amnesia
if you've forgotten how to feel,
forgotten who you are,
forgotten that you're real.
When you take it you'll remember
the day you walked through snow,
the shape of your back, the shape of your legs,
and all the songs you used to know.

With startling clarity you'll recall
how sunlight reflected on ice,
when you and fourteen oak trees
were all part of the same device.
But read the fine print first,
or it'll all fall apart:
Don't take on an empty stomach.
Don't take on an empty heart.

Now you've taken it several times
and found it to be a good cure,
but now the medicine's gone bad,
so you can't take any more.
No more wonderful side effects?
I find that as sad as you do.
But it did its job, and now
you remember what you have to do.

Step out with me into the winter
Though many may try to hold us back
We'll wrap ourselves in green wool coats
and find the other amnesiacs.
When we meet, we'll exchange memories
and warm each other with summersong.
And then we'll begin the struggle
of building hope all winter long.

Dark Windows


Massive, protective house

On a rise above the city

Heavy thick creamy walls

Supportive columns

Here and there, balconies

Dark windows lie behind

Looking out

Hiding treasure


I stare


But all is blackness

as night arrives


Nothing meets my gaze

No movement

No joy


I turn away, bereft


But suddenly rising light makes me pause

I look back again, to see


Inside

The dark windows beckon me

I want to be inside


A sumptuous room

A bed softly draped

Four carved posts


Dim in the falling night

Hidden by her lover

Lies a woman

Whose walls are being breached

By his kiss

She glows from within


The light spills out

As the walls writhe



Protected by her lover

And by her house

With its heavy thick creamy walls

And dark windows...

I glanced up at the bedroom window one day, and the poem took shape...
