1. My dear ccharles000...
We haven't eaten yet (It's just before 6pm here in CA!) but when we do, it'll be bacon burgers!

Plus lettuce, tomato, avocado, and toasted English Muffins with a little mayo...

47. It's kinda east central.
My great grandpa and his brother homesteaded there in the early part of the century, and two of the brother's children are buried there.

I just got a picture of the little girl the other day. Breaks my heart. I would love to see where she is buried.

24. I modify the directions on the bag of split peas.
I add whatever vegetables I have around. Today I fried some onions and celery, then added some diced carrots, bay leaves, tarragon, fresh garlic and frozen brussel sprouts, broccoli, lima and butter beans.
It's the first time that I've made it without either smoked turkey legs or a ham bone and it's not quite as tasty. As I sit here eating it, I'm thinking about how I'll tweak it next time.

i.e., "I'm thinking about how I'll tweak it next time." That's the way great food is made. Rock on. :-)

I really like split pea soup. It's insanely good. Your version sounds really, really tasty.

On edit: homage to the split pea soup!

44. Tortilla de patata and trampo
We used to eat this almost every night the first year or two of our marriage. I can never tire of it. Greatest combination in the world!

Simplest things are the best:

Tortilla de patata (aka tortilla espanola): olive oil, potatoes, onions (caramelized) and eggs.

Trampo: Tomatoes, green peppers, onions and olive oil (can add mussels, clams, crab, anchovies, etc., as you wish).
