3. Jimbo's just outside Paducha, Kentucky.
I'm telling you it is a dive, but a hell of a lot of fun. It is the kind of place you might see somebody spit on the floor. Lots of Harley's parked out front, cheap beer and a great juke box. Added bonus--no Karaoke.

Just sayin...

5. Campy's on Hwy 11
Slidell, Louisiana. An awesome little watering hole right on the water and just a few miles from Lake Pontchartrain. Great friendly crowd most of the time, good place to catch up on gossip, ice cold beer and usually something to eat free. And, pool tables of course. It USED to be a great place. Katrina ripped Campy's right off its pilings and flushed it out to the Gulf of Mexico. Talk about a reason to drink heavily!!! I sure do miss it!

11. Years ago there was a bar on Decatur street that was a riot.
Named The Decatur House, maybe? Spent a week or so in there drinking Dixies and jawing with the bartenders. My liver was never the same after that. Blew an ankle out walking out of there one night and spent the rest of the night with my foot in a cooler full of ice and beers.

First and only time I ever met anybody that was a "vampire." He had actually sharpened his teeth to points.

Good times.

Has the night life fully recovered in NOLA yet? I watched a thing a while back about the restaurant scene and how tough that has been to reclaim. I wonder sometimes if this entire nation will ever recover from Katrina.

12. The Qtr
has come back fairly well. Its ups and downs most of the time with the tourist business relying heavily on conventions but lots of conventions continue to stream to the city. And the restaurant business has come back very nicely in the past three years. Ironically one of their major problems is lack of manpower (cooks, busboys, dishwashers etc.) I do love the Vampires and one can usually see Marie Laveau or Marie Antoinette strolling (trolling) around Bourbon Street. We are 50 miles northeast and usually go down during the daytime and always have a fun time with good food and a few libations.

7. We used to have a bar called Ray's
However, being in the Napa Valley, we called it a local bar rather than a dive. Ray's went out of business and then it became an upscale expensive yuppie dive until that went out of business. Just as well, they hadn't a clue how to make a good martini. I think the location is now an olive bar... not to be confused with the Olive Garden.

8. O'Malley's in the Alley in Cincinnati
Great local crowd, great jukebox, midway down a dimly lit alley. The bartender wears a t-shirt that says, "the liver is evil. It must be punished."

Bonus: They have Sierra Nevada on tap.
