Not seeking medical advice....
but I had a wisdom tooth pulled this afternoon and it is bleeding like a mo-fo right now.

I woke up choking on blood :puke: and now it just won't stop.

Can I have a hug?

I would not let this go on too long...only you can determine how much blood you are losing. If you start feeling light headed...

I am going to get your thread locked

especially if you can't go to sleep for fear of choking on blood.

13. My dear malta blue!
I know you're not looking for medical advice, but I would seriously say go to an ER or a walk-in clinic NOW.

It needs to stop bleeding, and not just because you're close to choking on it.

They can make it stop.

GO...

And here's your hug, sweetie...

I am sitting up now, and it seems to be coagulating so I just chew on gauze (I raided Little MB's summer camp first aid kit) and will certainly seek medical attention within the next hour if it keeps up.

Thank you

16. Here's some medical advice
Right now, call the dentist/oral surgeon who performed the procedure. You'll get his/her service, of course, but at least your call and concerns will be on record. Request either a call-back tonight or an emergency appointment first thing tomorrow. Even if it was a simple extraction, it sounds like you may still need a stitch or two, in addition to any that you got this afternoon. If you get the call-back, ask if you should go to the ER for stitches.

If you don't get the call-back, and if the bleeding continues, call again first thing tomorrow and ask for the emergency appointment.

And whatever you do, don't go to sleep on your back!

Holy moley, you have my sympathy! I had two extracted in one visit and a third in another visit; in both cases the bleeding had stopped before I got out of the chair and did not recur.

Best of luck, and let us know how it turns out!

18. Odd thing is he gave me no antibiotics, no stiches, no pain meds...
NADA - ZIP - ZERO.

Just told me to take 3 ibuprofen every 4-6 hours and no smoking/drinking.

Granted, I took some Xanax before I went - and he was fully aware of that.

I will call the service right now and at least get it on record as you suggest.

Thanks :pals:

That's insane. I also got big ass pain pills. Of course, I had four out at once.

You have to sleep propped up against pillows. And do the salt water rinses. You can drink things like milkshakes and have simple stuff like tomato soup or broth (nothing with chicken or noodle chunks or veggies) for the first day or two.

28. Wow. Large molars usually require sutures, at least all of mine did.
Get ahold of that oral surgeon pronto. You should not be bleeding profusely HOURS AFTER a surgery like this.

I am not a doctor, but I've had plenty of dental surgical procedures. What you are describing is NOT typical.

Please let us know what happens.

29. Asprin is a blood thinner. Did you have instruction to stop taking aspirin seven days prior to...
surgery? That is standard operating procedure always.

30. You posted three hours ago, and it is now after midnight on the Pacific Coast.
What time was the procedure?

The body has to form a clot where the tooth was usually in a couple of hours.

After that, it might drain a little, but not so much you are in danger of aspirating blood. Please don't scrub your teeth or suck on a straw at all!

If you don't get this under control pretty soon, I'd say you need a dentist's advice pronto.

Hope you get the help you need quickly.

Goodnight now.

I finally got it to stop bleeding with a teabag.

It was a rush procedure so I was not told to stop taking aspirin for 7 days prior, and while I may have taken some, it is not part of my daily regimen.

I think the clot had dislodged, but I am doing better now.

My little girl just brought me jello for breakfast in bed (I think she wanted an excuse to have some herself :D )

 I'm sooo sorry! That sucks. Hope the bleeding has stopped by now.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled a couple years ago. I only had uppers that were already "erupted", so the extraction was pretty minimal...although I did get sent home with a healthy prescription of Vicodin. I saved my big-ass wisdom teeth, for some bizarre reason.

 Hang in there.

If the dentist had given you a prescription, it would likely have been for 600mg of ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. That's three Advil.
