So I went to the NYC Heritage of Pride March yesterday expecting to be a Group Marshal
Turns out they 'promoted' me to Section Leader. I was with the People of Color Contingent.

So in 90 degree weather I was running around all over 5th avenue with my walkie-talkie, trying to keep 10 different groups together.

It was SO MUCH FUCKING WORK!!

Thankfully by the time we hit 14th street, it started POURING!!! I felt terrible for the elaborately dressed drag queens, but terribly happy for myself!!!

If you ever get a chance to volunteer for a rally/march/parade you should do it. Despite being exhausted it was exhilarating to do something positive for my community, keep us safe from harm, and make us a visible presence!!

I hope people will send me pics, but I was entirely too busy to have any pics of me taken.

Will cross post in GLBT.

1. I marched in yesterday's Chicago Pride Parade
I marched with the contingent of people at the university I work. It was quite an experience. I've always been used to seeing it on the sidelines...but, oh my God...so many people! Loud, raucous...and a lot of fun! We got rained on at one point, but it didn't matter. We all had a good time and I was delighted to be a part of a unique and special experience.

Didn't take any pics, though. :-(

Sorry about the work you had to do. I noticed the same thing with the parade marshals...they worked their butts off.

4. I might volunteer next year.
I feel sort of draggy today. After the march, I met up with some friends and we had some cocktails at Buck's, a bar on Halsted.
