Bees in my yard!

I took my dog out a little while ago. After we walked, we sat in the yard near a flowerbed, where it is quiet. The hummingbirds are back this year. And there were bees! They are back!

This is a year of hope: electoral hope, baseball hope, and bees in my yard.

I think it is important that there are bees in my yard again. They were absent for awhile.

Congrats on having bees again.

I have had bumblebees around my rhododendrons while they were in bloom - but no regular honey bees to speak of.

3. I don't know if it's because we've JUST started planting bee, butterfly, and hummer plants

but we've had about 10 bee species (mostly native, I think), about 10 dragonfly species, about 5 butterfly species, and ONE hummer species this year.

Bees are cool.

Course it helps to plant stuff they like.

Sure hope they don't send me a bill for all their hard work on my plants!

5. I love the bees!

I've worried about them because of the news and I'm happy I have a bumper crop too, more than I've ever seen here. I planted special flowers for them so maybe I'll have more every year.
I took like 30 pictures of them this morning trying to get a good close-up and this was the best one:

8. We have some because we have clover in our yard.

Unfortunately, too many of the neighbors get their lawns sprayed, so the poor bees don't have that food source anymore.

I think it's better to have bees than a perfect lawn.

10. That's probably why we have bees again.

We have lots of clover in some parts of the yard. I live in the country. My husband likes "good" grass close to the house, but we let things stay natural on the rest of the property.

16. Our fermenting bird seed draws them before the flowers bloom.

It's warm, and they take some of the seed powder as a protein source. There's a hive down the street in a big hollow tree. LOVE to hear the buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
